Yep, I decided to bring up the awning a short time ago bugga, love my awning.
When the weather gods started to talk about Cyclonic winds coming this way soon, that was enough for me to bring it on up. Much safer. The bloke next door to me reckons I was crazy as only going to be a little breeze. I did notice him putting extra guy ropes etc on his camper though
I would have much preferred to leave it down to protect a bit more from all the heavy rain. Never mind, better up I think

he will probably regret leaving it out Doug. Listening to the weather forecast for your area, winds are going to be up to 90kmh - no amount of rope of pegs will save his awning. Your b/packers will look for sanctuary with you as their tent will blow away to - make sure you have the sugar ready LOL

Helped a fellow camper get his awning off the roof of his van just a few days ago. Roped down heavily but still went over the top. He also has a lovely continuous crack inside his van along the ceiling for the whole length of the awning.

If already out, and you can hear it banging/flapping and your van is rocking - go outside and roll it up. Its worth getting wet to save yourself the drama of the damage.
Yes - insurance will pay for it, but meantime you are severely inconvenienced or stuck where you are, you need to get the claim approved and find a repairer and then alternative accommodation while it is fixed and your van will never be as good as it was previously.

And me, in fact we did - BOM issued a wild weather warning for were we are staying so the first thing we did to prepare for its arrival was to put the awning up and we're glad we did because the weather was certainly wild.
Phew! What a night that was! No sleap, just shut eye but fully aware of the goings on around me and no not due to the twins Dave DM, I am not stuck here mate, this place is by choice as I love it here.
Had a quick look around and all here where I am camped up have survived the fury of the weather gods. A few tents down and drying out etc but everything else seems fine. Late yesterday a few awnings were still out but I think they saw mine in and did the same. The bloke next door was out during the night hammering away yet again.
Thanks to the sandy soil here the water is soaking into the ground quickly so just some minor pools around, nothing to cause bother. Don't know about in town though at this stage.
The weather gods are saying more of the same today but as we speak the sun is out no wind here anyway and around 21c but then the temp has been around 20c all through the drama so not cold.
I will check with the weather gods later and make an executive decision if to put awning back down or not.
Hold on tight further down the coast as the fury is heading down the coast now.

We would have done the same it is better a whole awning than a ripped, I have seen awnings totally rip off from two of our neighbours vans when we got caught in a sudden rain storm ,we had no time to roll it up as it was well tied down thank goodness it held, but only just just ,so now we make sure she is bolted down or rolled up if you have enough warning .
keep safe we hopefully head off again after our house is sold in late july, to ruby vale and Anike
Yep , previouse night felt the van give a couple of shivers from windgusts so next morning up it came.
Was going to ride out those so called 90k winds n projected rain but decided to hightail it away from the River n hole up at Sons place.
Quite glad we did too to be honest.
