Only problem was the sandflies but may be OK this time of year.
Intrigued by the old farm tractors driving about the streets & launching fishing boats off the beach & the kangaroos wandering around the same streets.
One of the best holidays I've ever had was at Woodgate, great people at the C/VP and wonderful locals. Had no trouble with sandflies . In fact there was a local that came through the park every day on his bush bike, his name was Sandfly because he was always buzzing around. He was a Vietnam Vet and would check out the vets staying in the park and make them welcome. Great bloke. The pub is about the most friendly pub I've been to. Called at the bottle shop for some beer and was told that next time I needed refreshments, just ring and they would deliver to the park.
The pub runs a courtesy bus as well, and you can take your dog on it, and they will provide water and a doggie bag at the pub for your dog, now that's hard to beat!
I guess google is close, only missed by about 30k as the crow flies. Woodgate is south of Bundaberg and right on the beach, a bit above the Burrum R.. Only one road in so it's not a place you can drive through only too.
Would everyone stop talking about Woodgate. Darn heck. Now the secret is out. For those of us oldies living in S.E. Qld., it is one of the great hidden gems. Great caravan park, dog friendly, across the road from a sandy tree lined beach and yes, the pub bus pick up is also great. Plus the locals get their lawns mowed by the roos who also live in the town. And a coastal walking/bike way the length of the beach under the trees. Also check out Theodolite Creek at the northern end. Plus Moore Park Caravan Park just north of Bundaberg is also a cracker.
