I have the ESC fitted to my Avida Sapphire - the LED indicator lights on drawbar are permantly on when 12 pin plug is inserted, even when ignition is off - is this normal? Even though this is a small draw on power it is my belief that ESC should not draw power without ignition - Avida claim normal and will not provide a wiring diagram for an Auto electrician to check

The lights on the indicator are to let you know the system is operational. They have to remain on all the time. If the lights go off, it means ESC is not functioning. You may want to go back to where you had it fitted and ask them to explain the whole thing to you. They should be able to quote examples as to why the lights are off and how to rectify it. It is an integral part of ESC.

Not sure if the following is connected with the ESC that we too had fitted to our van, but we have noticed on this last trip that our lights on the van appear to have a short in them and 'sparkle' like Christmas lights when Pete has the van hooked up/plugged in to the car. Will check with van dealer on Monday when we put it in for a service.

I hope you don't have the same problems as we did - The wiring was causing the van brakes to apply when turning corners - this would of course create a situation where van would stop abrubtly and cause the Tug (Patrol) to be held back and stalling half way around a corner - very hairy! Avida claim that Australian Standards are only recomendations not mandatory.
