Swift Explorer 2

Does anyone know where the Swift Explorer 2 fits into the Swift lineup? There are several advertised but cannot find any reference to them on either Swift UK or AU sites.

It seems the Explorer 2 Mark 2 is a new van for the Australian market. Do a search for Carlon Caravans at Unanderra, and you'll find more details.

As far as I can see it is the entry level for Swift. However, I reckon it's a bit exxy at $49k, especially as it does not have a fixed bed (you have to convert the lounge/dining to a bed every night). Nice van, well equipped, but bedding too impractical - for that sort of money, I'd expect a fixed bed - not for me, I'm afraid !!!

Carlon's was one place that listed an Explorer 2. Swift have listed an Explorer 4 but no Explorer 2 is mentioned. Carlon's description is vague and says it's a 4 berth but others say it's 2 berth. Think it maybe a special edition with a few additions (somewhere between a Challenger Sport & Challenger SE) hence the $49k tag.

I think you'll find that the Swift Explorer 2 is the new Aussie version of the UK Sprite Alpine 2. It is the smallest van of their range, although Swift do have a similar size Challenger Sport and Challenger SE.

I did a bit of a search for Swift vans about 3 years ago, and the Alpine 2 was the smallest they imported into Australia at that time, but they had not been Australianised at that time, just a straight import as a UK spec'ed van. If I remember, they were around the $35k mark, so I suspect if the local changes are added in, the van 'should' sell at around $39k today.

If Carlons are asking $49k, I think they've made a mistake somewhere in their pricing, although looking at the other Swift van prices that they are offering, maybe Swift has made a significant price jump with the 2015 series vans, and they are taking their vans much more upmarket than previously.

Yes, Carlons description is a bit vague, and sometimes have typo's in their descriptions.

In fact, I've just looked up Swift Brisbane - http://www.swiftrvbrisbane.com.au/swift-explorer-series - there is far more info about the new Explorer range here, and the Explorer 2 is only $46k in Brisbane as against Carlons $49k. From my point of view, I reckon the Explorer 4 is a better van than the Explorer 2 simply because it has a fixed bed.

ShortNorth.

Thanks for that. The link was just what I needed. I got every Swift catalogue except the one your post.

Checked out the Swift Explorer 2 yesterday ($49K). It was actually parked next to a Sprite Alpine 2 ($40K). The Explorer is an Aussie version of the UK Alpine 2 as was noted. The extra $9k is to strengthen & raise the chassis a bit and add a water tank, AC, solar, awning etc. to make it suitable for free-camping sites where there are no facilities. The Alpine 2 is designed to go to Van parks. It really doesn't work without power or water attached. The $46 vs $49 as noted is probably the amount of dealer options fitted from the base Explorer 2.
