Cleaning light-fitting rubber insert

Hi

Can anyone advise how to remove the ingrained dirt/stain on this rubber insert for my light fitting? I've cleaned off all of the surface gunk that had accumulated over the past 20-plus years with an all-purpose cleaner, but this is what's left and it appears to be permanent. Might have to check out Clark Rubber if it can't be cleaned up.

Cheers

Joe

Maybe try BiCarb and water mix.  Vinegar and water mix. Leave in either for couple of hours and give a good rince.

Try those baby wipes (Aldi have them) I've cleaned everything inside it works for me, get the unscented ones., they have alcohol in them, it cleans almost every thing.

After that period of time the rubber is probably cactus and easier to replace.

Try giving it a rub with a wire Jex pot scrubber.

Thanks for the replies boys and girls, I'm currently trying Uncle Doug's vinegar/water tip and will progressively work through the others if that doesn't work. Will also grab some of those Aldi wipes when I'm in Brisbane for the caravan show in early June ... no Aldi stores up this way unfortunately.
