I know this topic has been discussed previously but the search function isn't bringing a lot of threads up.

We have a BT 50 and have been advised that the tyres will need replacing before the next service (40 000). These are the original tyres (Dunlop AT 22 Grandtrek - 265/65r17) and the caravan we're towing is about 3.2 tonne.

Some questions - is this a reasonable distance to travel on a set of tyres used this way? Are the Dunlops the best tyres for the job and if not, are there any recommendations for alternatives (we aren't planning any serious off-roading, mainly highway with occasional dirt tracks with maybe some corrugations)? Are there any preferred suppliers or are they broadly similar with price being the only real difference? Are there any tyres to avoid? Are there any suppliers to avoid? Are there any other things that we should be considering?

BFGoodrich KO A/T light truck tyres.

We have got 100,000klm out of them on a Nissan Patrol Towing 75,000lkm  Driving car alone the remainder.

We are on the 2nd set now. 35,000klm up so far.

II took delivery of my BT 50 less than a month ago. Previous was a '08 Ranger (rebadged earlier model BT 50). The tyres on when traded were Maxis 245 70 16 AT, had 75,000k on them and still some to go. So when I ordered the new one I had the same tyres ordered, I had new Speedy 16" wheels fitted rather than the standards to match the van wheels and with luck will have a similar result with milage on the new tyres with this truck. By the way I am on the road full time thus towing most of this milage. If I only got 40,000k out f a set of tyres I would be more than a little upset.

Cooper tyres are currently being advertised with a discount. Might be worth a look.

The Grandteks probably only had 10mm tread from the start ie cheaper for the manufacturer. We got 40K out of ours as well.

Now on Bridgestone's after a set of Coopers gave me only 60K AND when a couple of Coopers started wearing uneven ie one section of tread wearing one way and the next wearing the other Coopers said stiff ****. Never buy em again just for that.

Have used Toyo H08's on the Kea since we first bought it, have almost 50'000 K's on the current set and still look good for a while yet, very good tyres, excellent milage.smile
