Where do u measure from

when booking into some CTP's they ask the length of van, it's a 19"6 or 6 metres, yes but how long is it..... Am I missing something or do they go by tow bar to spare wheel. Which is 25" or 8 metres . it is registered as a 19"6 so that's what I tell them

cheers OMD

Mine is a 19'6" is well OMD but I would actually tell them I need 8mts as that is the overall minimum space needed. It would also be what is charged for on say the "Spirit of Tassie" + your car in that case. CVP's ask because they probably need to know what site to put you on.

The total van length has to fit on the site so it makes sense quote that when booking in.

we as do as doug, always give longer length as have been caught out in campgrounds with sites to small or very hard to get into. we have only ever been asked to pay more once

OMD measure from the tow ball to spare if you have it at then rear of the van. This is the min you need to fit on a site.

The measurement quoted by c'van makers is usually the floor length of the van.

I was asked that question from a number of caravan parks over the last 2 weeks and they take the length being from the tow ball to the rear spare if fitted.

They need to know this for the site length allocation.

Thank you everyone for your replys it does make sense but as I hadn't measured the full length ( have now ) was a little unsure, I am getting older. Thanks again.

Agree with all of the above, give 'em as long a length as you dare, I once made the mistake of telling a park our van was a 16 footer, you couldn't have got a Hiace camper van on the postage stamp they allotted me.

Generally as stated, you need the total length as a minimum, spare wheel to coupling, which still often leaves the tug across the road and causes other problems while unhitching or hitching up.

The van length is the inside measurement. ie 16' van is actually nearly 7 metres overall.
