Hi Maxx. We may go this way north from Melbourne in about 5-6 weeks time, so interested also in hearing what others say - not only the road conditions and steepness, but the probability of snow!!

If a bit tricky at this time of year (and obviously we would check out with Main Roads), we would rather go inland and come down this way on the way back from QLD

We are interested in replies too, as we came past the Hume Hwy end of the Snowy Mtn Hwy today, we talked of perhaps after Christmas in Canberra, we could maybe work our way along the Snowy hwy, and possibly climb Mt Kozzie along the way.

yeah with 2'6 , only done it in my old Bedstead with a 'furniture trailer'5or 6yr s ago .

but that was in summer .There were still patches of snow up around Kiandra ,

even for an old Beddy it was a good drive . Plenty wide enough .

Hills & climbs . I came in from Hume end , through to Cooma then Bombala

Don't know about the winter though.

Yes I am praying I get to see some snow I haven't seen snow since 1986 as a young girl

We have thought this through very long and hard as dad has a brand new trailer and its a big one too we figure if the weather permits we might go down the mountain, but we are considering going on the snowy mountain highway to Cooma then after staying at Jindabyne for some fishing we might hit the road to Canberra and do a round trip to see the tucker box dog etc.... See things as we go.

I know there are some caves between Cooma Jindabyne and heading towards Wagga which we might see if we can see also.

We might try going down the mountain on the way home but as you all say snow fog slippery bad weather hmmmm I'm reluctant to risk it atm, think dad is too

Thank you guys we appreciate your input. I will post on the forum and let you all know how we go with this trip. This will be the biggest one we take since we got the RV and we've already travelled a bit.

Nelly yes in my eyes it's the most beautiful part of our country my heart remained there in 2008 when I went there for some K9 work. I have wanted to go back for so long. Personally summer would be easier but both dad and I are itching to do some fishing at lake Jindabyne and maybe Lake Eucumbene and as its my 40th birthday pressy to do this trek I'm not letting the snow stop me right now, I hope we get to see some then I've won the lottery 😄😍

Bruce & Bev I think the snow will start soon as a few mentioned its Coming I know they had thunderstorm warnings yesterday, and there is rain all week until Thursday next week that I can see. Let me know how you guys go too. I will try to keep you all posted also. We are looking at going next week I will confirm that once we are ready to head off.

Douge I'm hoping we get some snow but I do know what you mean. I don't think I'll be doing the driving this time lol

Nelly can I ask where did you have to pay to take photos? I took photos in 2008 of the snowy mt scheme at the stop point and few other photos as I was going through the national park but never had to pay

Just wondering if things have changed sine I've been?

 Sounds like you were not forewarned. That is a public road you traversed. You simply inform the gate keeper you are passing through. They then issue you with a free pass to go through. The pass is valid for 2 hours which is plenty of time. During the trip I mentioned above, the other two drivers asked for that pass and got it with minimum fuss. We lunched at Tom Groggin and made it through in the 2 hours easily. Next time you will know.

Hello Roadtourer - I paid the $16 at the entrance of the park (coming from Jindabyne).
PeterD - I was asked if I was going to stop and I said I would only pull over occasionally to take photos - answer was I had to pay the money. If I didn't pay I had to drive straight through without stopping until I got to Khancoban. As I am not planning to go this way again I thought I would make the most of it. I went into Thredbo to 'get my moneys worth ' and have a cup of coffee - could not get a park anywhere - if there was a park it was not big enough for the sprinter - so I continued on and as I posted before 'a donation to the government '.

Always a good idea in any state that charges park admission. 

Yes. I visited the Jervis Bay National Park last weekend and proudly produced my NSW Parks permit.

Sorry Sir, the lovely ranger replied...this is Federal Govt and we don't accept the NSW Permit. Had to pay tp enter.
