Was reading the Nomad news about Warrnambool vic and that got me thinking about caravan parks at Emerald qld, last time we were up that way the only camping seemed to be near the bridge so we moved on to Saffire. (not that that was a bad move)
As we intend to be heading that way shortly, would anyone have an update on c/ps or are they still full of miners.
Dave, I know what ya mean mate. When I pulled in there, there were heaps of wizbangs and happy campers but too many for me so ended up in the CVP sort of at the back of the, I think, BP Servo.
Nice park with some drive through sites. I arrived late arvo and got a drive through for one night. Individual ensuite like facilities, very clean and spacious. People in the office were nice and friendly as well and that goes a long way with me. Can't remember the cost but I think just under $30. Two years worth of moons since then.

Emerald show ground is cheap and not to bad. There are two caravan parks I remember. One on the left side of highway heading into town from the east not good and one on the right side not bad.
We stayed at Emerald Cabins and Caravan Park last August - great place with immaculate amenities and friendly staff. Gets very crowded and some sites are smallish. If you are looking for a CVP, then I would choose this over the other park. There is also Bedford Weir north of Blackwater, east of Emerald which has toilets/showers but not much more in the way of amenities, however, it is a great place to stay but a fair way out of town.
Best of luck

Higher Ground is a great place. Must be self contained although water is available. Kathy is really nice. I stay there every time I go to Emerald. Small downside is its about 17ks from town. If you are coming from south you can cut through over the dam wall and bypass Emerald. Sapphire and Rubyvale are close (I think about 50kms) and you can go there for a day trip.
I live at Sapphire and had a mate staying at the Emerald showgrounds, there's animal yards close in to the campsites that he had a tick problem with, if you stay there be prepared and watch your hairy bits, that's where ticks like to camp on you.
Very good , looks like Higher Ground is the place to try first and a great bit of imfo from gemmybob, down south we only worry about the tick of a clock oi.
There again just reread chaslib, some good options there.
Thanks all
Can't remember name of the big dam there (Old Timer's disease), I think it's Lake Maraboon, correct me if I'm wrong. Caravan Park there but also don't remember details as it was a few years back. What I want to tell you is the dam s full of red claw. Throw in a couple of pots overnight and next morning you will have dozens of them.
