Interesting my brother is on his second jeep just loves it no serious problems both diesels first one did over 200,000 with no issues this one is about 150,000 I think, and my son has one no problems yet apart from catalytic converter blocking from short driving in town and not getting it hot enough to burn properly.
Personally I am a patrol fan my first I bought new ( cab chassis as I am a farmer ) is now 22 years old done something close to 500,000 km and have put a new water pump on, rebuilt the alternator and starter motor once each, replaced front and back universals once each think I have replaced front brake pads twice can't remember ever doing the rear ones but may have, never touched the injectors had to put seals in the fuel pump quite a few years ago when they change the diesel fuel specifications , have never changed the oil from new in the gearbox or diff, dam thing let me down the other day for the first time it would seem that the clutch master cylinder is by passing the plunger got to pump it to change gears oh I am about to put the second set of drivers side door hinges on, power what power ( 4.2 diesel ) but gee it's been reliable, so bought a 2005 one to tow the 5th wheeler last of the turbo inter cooled 4.2 diesels no bloody computers in this one .

GO ASHTON stick it up them hope Chrysler get some very bad press . NOTE we own a jeep but love ours , we should have lemon laws here .Perhaps some pollies will see this and put legislation in place so this wont happen to others. (OOOOHHhh silly me pollies only feather there own nests) But we have seen this happen, to other manufactures over the years. IT IS SAD TO SEE PEOPLE spend 40G, 50G, 60G, or more and get a lemon. Then get treated so badly. iam going to email my local mp, thats the only way i can protest I must be getting cranky in my old age lol
I imagine Jeep Australia will be regretting their reluctance to look after this customer, this little saga will cost them dearly.
Based on passed behaviour, this will have little to no effect on their sales. For example, look at how many Commodores Holden sold. Lots of people are loyal to the brand. Grandpa bought a Holden, son buys a Holden, grandson buys a Holden, and so it goes on. Biggest s***box ever made yet they sold heaps. Good news is they are finally closing their doors soon. Flawed Falcon not much better.

Sorry Larry, but when you make statements as brazen as that one !! you blow any credence your original thread had to offer,-- the last 20 years of my working life was spent driving Holden and Falcon utes servicing the petrol/chemical industry plant and equipment, I used to do a MINIMUM 60-70OOO kLM PER YEAR .. The ONLY Major repair done on any of them was on the Holden VS [ duel/fuel ] ute, Blew a auto trans, to much towing with no oil cooler fitted, ended up selling that one to a customer for his dad,, it had done 460,000 klm, and still running tight and smooth,, In fact my last 4 vehicles were all running tight and smooth when we sold them [ to people we knew ] and they had all done between 370000, and 480000 klms Imagine how good it could have been !! IF we did not buy the Biggest Sh-tboxes ever made, !!
odd how these huge companies get all mealy mouthed..........how much would it have cost them to fix or even replace this, rather than it hitting the national TV news and papers?
I had a run in with Ford over a Territory that had not had the body work cleaned properly before they painted it and the rust worked out.
Despite letters and numerous phone calls and compalints to our State consumer protection agency (they weren't as aggressive a few years ago), Ford didn't reply to any letters and the most senior person I got to speak to was their Customer Call Centre Manager who told me to **** off and then hung up in my ear (and I wasn't nasty at that stage with him) !!!
I then spoke again to the Dealer Principal who just used weasel words on me. As a long shot the dealership was owned by AHG. I phoned them and was put straight through to a senior manager. He listened to the saga and told me he would be speaking the Principal and would I please phone the Principal in about 30 minutes.
Oh yeah........I thought, but made the phone call. The Territory was 8 months old. When I spoke with the Principal who almost crawled down the phone line to me, they asked which colour I wanted for my replacement vehicle!!!! Got a brand new replacement (no doubt some other poor sod got our rusty one once they'd touched it up. The AHG guy was really interested in what the Ford Call Centre Manager had said to me - he was shocked at what had been sent, and wanted to know the time and day of my conversation with this prat - who I suspect may have soon after been made unemployed (hopefully)
Lousy - no service from Ford - but great from AHG. And we've had both Fords and Holden in the past and like Dazren - no major problems.

dazren,
if they were as good as you say, perhaps they would not be closing their doors. I rest my case.
The government regulators are diplomats, toothless tigers.
By way of example, a few years ago I was encouraged by a boat dealer's advertisement with photo to buy the Savage alloy boat and motor package on offer for a good price.
When I went to the dealer it was the classic bait and switch advertising, where the pictured new boat was not available and the salesman tried to sell different, lesser brands of boat and motor, and more expensive to top it all off.
With plenty of evidence and the advertisement still up there for the public, off I went to those government diplomats for some satisfaction.
However the government bureaucrats were only about getting written complaints, doubtless to boost their stats and protect their empire. Thanks for all of the details, now complete these forms. Would they even look at the advertisement and have it taken down? Well no, they have their procedures to follow..
The advertisement ran for months. The dealer was obviously aware that the wheels of bureaucracy grind very slowly and he had clear air and plenty of time before he might get a slap on the wrist.
Reminds me of the HJ Holden Premier wagon I had years ago that nearly killed me when a tyre blew out on a two lane highway. The model was prone to bent banjos in the rear axle housing which meant that tyres wore out rapidly on the inside edge. The vehicle had been in and out of dealers who held the car for days and did SFA, blaming tyre brands and driving style. The tyre companies were very coy about the cause, but were insistent it wasn't them.
Solved the problem by buying Falcons. Don't rely on Government or dealers, walk!
sorry Larry, ! another brazen comment,!! I have not heard any negative reports about the quality or reliability of holden and ford, Being the reason for there departure from Australia,, It is for purely Economic reasons,, The new Colorado for example, can be made overseas, for just Under 2 thirds of the cost of making it in Australia..
Most of the motoring magazines have been saying Ford and Holden are both leaving Australia, at a Time when they are Both Producing a Vehicle that is as good as any, !! and better than Most, !! in their class,, However building in Australia is not economicaly viable to compete against Imported opposition !
Santa,, It is Not just ALL about the Jeep, the whole jeep, and nothing but the jeep, Larry and I have differing opinions one the quality of ! and the reasons being, of why Aussie made cars are leaving Australia,!! We have both already expressed our comments on the Jeep earlier on in the thread,,
I do not consider this a Hijack, Larry was firm in his opinion ! and i was firm in mine, !! and there was no where near an argument about it,,
I love what the "destroy my Jeep" is doing for the Push of Better consumer Laws....
If we don't have a US style Lemon law in place with in the next 2years we are screwed....
If you check out the car makers in the US and other countries... their manufactures are still making cars and storing them in open air Parking area's, even if they are not sold...
