Hi Campers, I bought one of those mats that do not track dirt indoors (c-gear or something like that?) it was discussed on the forum just recently. It absolutely
PONGS!!! Bought it at Bunnings (as recommended) for $5 and no wonder it was reduced from $10.50!!! Anybody got one of these and how do you stand the smell? And how do I de-pong it?
It was recommended on the label to wash it - did that soon as I smelt it and it was WORSE!!! OMG!!! HELP!!! Jay-Jay
sorry but can't help with the pong issue but thanks for posting this as I have been looking at those mats in Bunnings for our van and was heading to them tomorrow to actually purchase it....think I will put up with dirt inside for the time being
Maybe try sprinkling with bi-carb and leave outside for a day or 2 may help....bi-carb is good for removing odours from fridges etc so maybe worth a try ( I just thought of this idea as I was typing )

Was it supplied in a sealed plastic bag so you could not smell it before purchase? You do not describe the smell but many Latex products initially pong to the point where you just cannot get near them. If it is a Latex smell that is causing the problem, about three weeks in free air are needed before the odour becomes acceptable.

Is it new Jay Jay? If so just hang it up and leave it outside to air as much as you can for a week at least. If not new and at either of those prices you mentioned I would just file it under B and get another one. I got a non slip matt from BigW that works a treat and with no smell.

Jay-Jay, Bunnings does not carry C-gear mats. Certainly not at $5. Don't know what you bought but 99% sure it is not a C-gear. Pls don't rubbish the real item.

CGear Multimat was originally designed as a deployable helimat to eliminate dirt, dust and debris from being kicked up by the helicopters rotors when landing.

Hi JayJay, I bought one of these mats a few months ago, I have it just inside our front door so the dogs can walk on it before coming in, I washed it before use, paid $15 for it at Bunnings, and have noticed no smell. Very happy with it so far
we bought one of these "collect all mud and dust" mats from Cheap As Chips about 3 weeks ago. It came in a cardboard container that had semi open sides, so not sealed and had no "new smell" Cost round $8 and in two colours - dark brown/white and balck/white short shaggy carpet top.
It does say it is washable, but it has a rubber backing, so doubt if you can throw it in the washing machine. We shake it out every day (and it does collect all the foot garbage) and if it gets dirty mud marks or whatever on it - we just wash it off with a Chux type cloth and soapy water. Then hang it up to dry and use it again. No smell at all - going to buy a spare when next at the Chips shop - theyre perfect

Hi Campers, No! the mat I bought was not C-Gear though I was looking for that brand (as read on the forum) and 'that' mat was the one I came across (in Bunnings) as 'does not track in mud etc' - I thought it may be similar... Obviously not! I'm away in the caravan at present and I left the mat hanging outside on the hoist at home. Though I did notice just as we were leaving, my washing machine ponged too - it was THAT bad...Well, the mat may just get chucked.... Jay-Jay
