Our Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel has travelled 23,000 kms without a problem, and has towed a 2.5+ tonne caravan to Tasmania this last 10,000 kms. Happy if you share this information.
Reckon ya got a 60/40 chance, I have got 4 friends with with Jeeps under 2 years old, !! 1 has done 18000 Klm loves it,, 1 has done 32000 K also loves it, But did blow a turbo at 29000 [ not towing ] 1 tows a 17ft poptop done 55000 Klm says best thing since sliced bread,, 1 has done 58000 klm, like it but has had a few problems computer wise, said ask me when i have done 100.000 k then he will tell me if happy or not I asked because i was considering buying one also, as they are not a bad package for the money, !! but i am still un decided, !
I bought a 2007 3lt. Grand Cherokee Limited 2 years ago and apart from the statuary wear and tear items such as tyres/battery/ oil and filters/ rear shocks etc have had no problems.
I use to have a 100series Landcruiser but the Jeep has more torque and also uses less Diesel towing my 2500 tare Crusader Manhattan.
we own a jeep , had it for about 6 months we bought it second hand 2012 overland. The voice recognition went heywire ,but jeep put a new radio in it a few days ago ,under warranty all good again, we absolutely love this jeep drives nice and smooth , i get about 9ltr per 100 kliks. The guy that had it already set it up for towing, extra fuel tank i can carry 160ltr. anderson plug, off road pack 18 inch wheels , diff, gearbox , fuel tanks, etc all protected with metal plates. electric brakes all wired in ,cb radio all wired in. Drives great I WONT GET MY VAN TILL OCT NOV then i will find out how it tows
Had a jeep last model (fiat) towed a 3ton van for 85,000k. Had no trouble. Better than the cruiser I had before. Great towig car, except it needs to be bigger.
I too have a jeep, 2003 2.8lt 5cyl diesel Grand Cherokee limited, bought it 4 years ago, just returned from 500km trip in the south west of wa returned 8.3 lt per 100ks, tows beautifully a 2ton van and then does not go over 12lt per 100ks. I wonder at all the crap and subjective opinions we get on this forum sometimes, why do we not stick to facts rather than our over inflated opinions.
Just read the other post on the lemon Jeep, does not mean that they are all like that, but some just like to air their ignorant opinions, pity as it spoils what could have been an informative thread, rather than a self opinionated rant....by some.
It is good somebody had some luck mine was junk. The service from jeep was impossible parts expensive if you can get them. Took six months to get seat inserts. Warranty not worth the paper its written on. genuine tow bars rip the rear end to pieces I know of at least 5 that have collapsed or torn apart rear subframe. They are junk
I guess it is like all things there are going to be the occasional "lemon" but I think considering the number of Jeeps we are now seeing on the roads the percentage of bad ones seems low.
I had Fords for 30 years (Falcons or Territory's) and when it came to the latest upgrade I was almost ready to sign up for a new Territory when a friend who was going through the same exercise asked if I had looked at the Jeep? I hadn't and so took one for a drive and both the wife and I were hooked.
Have had it now for a little over 12 months and there are just 2 things I'm not happy with
1. The radio antenna is not all that good and I sometimes struggle to get the station I like.
2. The indicator stalk is on the left side of wheel and when I indicate I have to let go of my wife's hand (I know a bit soky)
We are on a 3 month tour towing a 2.8 tonne van and she has not missed a beat, fuel was a bit heavy across the Nallabor but we were heading into a head wind all the way, since then we have dropped back to about 13.8l/100kms which I'm very happy with.
I'm one happy Jeep owner.
When we were looking for tow vehicle, we almost bought a Jeep, but the Disco suited me better.
I reckon Jeep and Landrover suffer from the same issue, they are both great vehicles dogged by the memories of prior models, many of which were very questionable in both cases.
Hi, We are recently retired and just joined the forum and am a Jeep convert. We've had our Grand Cherokee since Nov 14 and just about to turn over 50,000 klm. Apart from a coupe of std recalls, servicing our jeep hasn't missed a beat. It's economical, comfy & very safe on the road. The original Michelin Tyre's will need replacing within 10,000 klms
Whilst we're deciding which way to go with a Van I'm tidying up our old "Road & Track" camper to take away on short trips etc. I picked a a near new RV4 Oz-tent to put up over the kitchen side ov the camper as the old annex/tent (still in good condition) takes a bit of effort to put up.
We've just returned from a 3400 klm round trip to Shark Bay and home.
Whilst up in Shark Bay we even took it up the Francois Peron Peninsular to Herald Bight for a day trip. The Jeep handled the trip well and didn't hesitate in the soft sand.
I am contemplating a replacement for the old tug and have looked at the new Pajero sport and discussed it with Belmont Bear even had a ride, Thanks again, and the Jeep grand Cherokee Limited.
I have talked to about 20 owners who are towing vans about the same size as mine and one guy told me the only complaint he had was that you had to get out at the end of the trip, everybody else very happy and no complaints yet.
Jeep have also increased the warranty to 5 years which matches the Pajero.

Since original posting have now reached over 80,000 kms and the Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel has run like a charm. Towing 2.5 tonne dual axle over 30,000kms throughout Qld, NSW, Vic and Tas.
Recent service priced by dealership at $1,550. Local service company with sound reputation handled it for half the price. They have noted an oil leak and will monitor this to next service. There are no tell tale signs in the garage, so trust it as minor.
First set of tyres only lasted 40,000, replacements still have a lot of meat on them. Stayed with the original Michelin Latitude Tours. Have had to replace one when a nail went through side wall.
Fuel consumption has seen a best of around 6-7 litres per 100km highway running, usually average around 9-10 in city running. Towing van has seen best of 13 litres per 100 km and worst of 19 in a head wind. Typical runs out 15-16. Tend to tow at the speed limit and have no difficulties keeping up with traffic.
Use Hayman Reece towbar and weight distribution hitch, no problems there in. Have ESC fitted to van and have had a couple of examples of it's help. Believe ESC should be mandatory on all vans.
Am now in the realms of being "outside of warranty". Will be interesting to see how long I end up keeping this vehicle. This is the longest I have ever owned any vehicle had previously changed over around two years through boredom usually. Cannot see a good replacement in the market place, happy to hear of any recommendations though.
New Jeep vehicles now have a five year warranty, otherwise they don't seem to have changed much other than increases in price. This is still a very good looking, modern and highly specced vehicle. My only criticism of this Jeep product is the comparatively high service charges quoted by Jeep dealers.
