I want to install a diesel heater in my Sunliner Fiat Ducato Motorhome
I can not get it clear how the take off for the diesel is installed in the Fiat tank. Is there anyone who can explain this to me in detail and perhaps some pictures
Hi Laurie, What brand of heater do you have? Or, if you haven't bought yet, what brands have you looked at. Our van has a Webasto heater fitted and that has its own fuel tank. Approx. 12 L. It can be mounted wherever it is convenient. Not sure that I would be looking at tapping into the fuel tank of the Fiat. I am sure there will be many others that will be able to offer you advice though. The heater is a ripper, so good luck with the installation. Cheers, Brownie2
Hi. You might have a bit of luck if you try the search and extended search on the blue tool bar above. I know diesal heaters have been discussed before but not positive the previous posts covered your query? But maybe!!!! Good luck. We have the German one in our caravan and love it.
I have not purchased one yet but reading all I can about each brand.
I have a motorhome and no room for a separate tank.
That is why I want information on installing the take off in the Fiat diesel tank. - I do not think I have any problem with the rest of the installation -Just want to be 100% sure about the take off in the tank
Thank you - I have read this article the last few days many times -(I still have some reservations on the problems involved) - I would like to hear from other members who have installed the take off in the tank
We have a Sunliner and I fitted a diesel heater and was advised to use a separate tank because a lot have had trouble when connecting into the fiat tank I fitted the tank just inside the rear outside hatch so it is easy to fill and get at works very good
I carry a 10 litre plastic container of diesel I bought the tank of pinnacle wholesales in Ballarat with the planer heater I think it was about $80 the filler of the tank is only about 3 inches in from the edge of the hatch and the pourer on the end of the can reaches it easy have a look at their web site it seems to hold about 5litres but the heater only uses about a cup of diesel all night I have only used about 4litres in 12months
If you do decide to connect into the fuel tank line make sure it is the return line because the fuel pump is in the tank and the line going to the pump is under presure there is a cover over the top of the tank where you can get at both lines it is between the seats at the rear a lot who have connected this way have had trouble with fuel leaking when the tank is full the pipe when cut is difficult to fit a t section pipe to hope this helps

The heaters are very economical, ours has been on almost daily (nightly) for the past 6 weeks for a couple hours a day & has only used a couple litres of fuel.
For this reason I designed the tank placement such that I can drain it easily. Diesel goes off relatively quickly if in a tank that is not airtight. The tank must vent to be useable.
What I will do is, every month or so, empty the heater tank into my ute tank then refill fresh diesel into the heater tank. This should prevent "gumming" of the fuel.
Cheers Neil

Hi
Has anyone cut into the return diesel line to the tank to supply to a diesel heater for a motor home as mentioned by Dragonfly1 above in his reply - what is your experience. This sounds better than drilling into the tank
