12 volt sewing machine ( quilting)

We were just looking for feedback from the Ladies on tour in regards to having a 12 volt sewing machine.
The wife ( Dee) of the Jay&Dee is into quilting and wants to take her hobby with us on the road.
She has a Janome computerised machine at home. It is an electric 240 watt, a very compact but slightly heavy machine.
For all the Quilters out there what sort of machine do you use. 
Now let us say, that we know that a lot of ladies hand quilt, but the Misses has arthritis and this is a issue hence the machine quilting.
Looking forward to some positive feedback r e this request from the girls on the road.

Firstly, I'm not a lady (at least I wasn't the last time I checked) but i do have a quilter for a wife.

We recently completed 18 months on the road and she took her fancy Bernina machine as "nothing else is as good" according to her. It is heavy but it resided under the foot leadge on the bed and there was never an issue in 50,000 kms.

If weight is an issue, just leave a couple of tins of baked beans behind and take the machine instead. At least Dee will be busy while you're out catching a fish.

Would it not be easier to run the sewing machine on 240 volts with an inverter rather than looking for a 12V machine.

Brenda's Janome machine only draws 50 Watts so would not be a large draw on the battery.

Some years ago I purchased a second hand Elna Lotus - dinky little thing it is, and at 6Kg (think?) it is very handy in the van. They are a good solid machine and worth the $210 I paid for it back then. I then purchased a universal walking foot for it so I can do some quilting also when we are on the road. It has travelled all over the countryside with us, and am sorry I left it at home this trip, but have got some cross stitch and knitting with me this time. Next time it will be the first thing that goes in the van.

Edit: If you are interested in getting one of these, keep your eyes open for a good second hand one (and there are some around) because you cannot buy them new anymore.
