Cliff Head North ( on the West Coast )

We have just returned from a free Camping holiday at Cliff Head North, Situated app 6.5 km South of the Junction of the Brand Hwy and  the new Coastal hwy, ( about 6hrs drive North of Perth )

This spot is supposed to be a 72hr rest area but, we noticed a number of campers there, who were there three weeks ago, when we called in on our way North , being Easter holidays, I guess the Ranger must have been on holiday as well.

This spot is the best to view the Sun-Sets on the West Coast, we were lucky enough to capture this photo on our first nights stay....

The fishing also proved to be better than we have had there in the past......

There had been a lot of damage done to the trees in the camping area, caused by the wind from a recent Cyclone.......

A very pleasant place to spend a few days, the only draw-back was the flies, millions of the little sods,  plus the humidity was shocking as there was a storm brewing and the heat inside the caravan had built up to 35 + deg's ,  these conditions finally drove us back to Perth, where it has been raining since our return two days ago.

Great camp that we always stop there for the night on our way up to Eighty Mile Beach .
Last two times pulled in before the sign that 's before the out crop plenty of camping space there and flat grass .
Never fished there as we are always in a hurry I'll keep this in mind
.Thanks Dhutime

I think the recent Cyclone which hammered the shore in these parts, did a great job of cleaning most of the sea weed off the beach, leaving large stretches of lovely white sand,  this helped no end in bringing in the fish, but the weed was starting to build up again by the time we left.

I have to admit, the fishing was an unusual  surprise, We have camped there quiet a few times over the years and have never had it so good in the past, I caught 5 fish in total on one evening, the one in the photo was by far the biggest ,

Some local boys who had a boat there told me that fish were being driven inshore by the Salmon which were running up the Coast, but they were around 5km off shore.

I noticed how much the beach tracks have been pushed down by the 4x4's driving up and down the coast, if this keeps up, you can bet the local Shire Council will be closing this very popular Free Site,

Over the Easter Weekend, I counted at least two dozen caravans plus numerous tents and camper vans set up there, the rubbish bins were full to overflowing and the toilet block, well all I can say about that was," Thank God " we had our own in the caravan.

kiwijims cliff head both nth and sth are great spots we use it a lot coming back to Geraldton from Perth .we were there for 2 days early march 10/11th and the ranger did come round and left a pampletstateing 72 hrs only but did say thay dont do regular runs so 2 weeks could be juggled.2 new sites are avaiable Freshwater point and Nobby,s head but they are on the same title as Cliff head so i,t total 72 hrs not 72 at each spot but he doenst come you could get more.Dont think the tree damage was the cyclone as we moved on to Jurien for that weekend and there was no wind and Geraldton also had no wind but the rain could have weaken the soil round the roots causing them to topple.7 Mile beach north of Dongara is also 72 hrs stopover.
