I stayed at the Warnambool Showgrounds/Greyhound track a couple of years ago in a Motorhome. The rent went from $11 to $20 whilst we were there and was collected by an onsite manager/caretaker.
The facilities were poor and not very well cleaned.
The main problem were the Greyhound fraternity who seemed to object to the use of the showgrounds for camping. The greyhound race meet meant there were lots of greyhounds around.
I will mention that there is a fully fenced dedicated area for the dogs to do their business.
There were some young kids who were playing a game of cricket and were no problem to anyone.
Some greyhound owners were deliberately walking their animals around disrupting the kids playing and a couple of the people actually stopped their dogs pooping and dragged them to where the kids were playing cricket then stopped to let the dogs go where the kids were playing cricket.
It was blatant and disgusting.
I had gone to the showgrounds after going to a well known holiday village where despite it being nearly empty they wanted $80 per night for a small powered site. Other camping places were on a par.
I quite liked the town but not the way they treat the travelling public.
I believe the showgrounds are no longer open to camping.
I will pay a reasonable amount if I want to use a CP but when you want $80 per night out of season. No-Way.
I have also been told that the council own and operate one of the largest CP's but cannot say with 100% accuracy that is fact.
For me also I won't be visiting any CP in Warnambool.
You've got lots of mates Yugamron. Whenever we go down that way, which is at least a couple of times a year, we avoid even stopping in Warrnambool and continue past Port Fairy to Narrawong. There is a C/P right on the beach down there which is family owned and must have one of the best set-ups anywhere. Narrawong is about 10ks from Portland and there are so many great attractions in that area to have a look at. The park's prices are fair and whilst the facilities are a bit old and tired, who really cares as long as they're cleaned regularly.
Forget towns that try to rip off the travelling public and stick to those that genuinely want us to stay.
