I do know of Alex Trevallian primitive camp on the south side of Walgett adjacent to the hospital. Has designated sites and a 48 hour limit. Dump point and water available

Strongly suggest they look at staying in the caravan park at Coonamble, which should not be too expensive. Personally, would not stay at Walgett.

Gday...

Walgett NSW Free Camp

Comments and pics borrowed from another forum posted March 2015

  1. Free 48hr camping at Walgett Primitive Camping Ground.(Alex Trevallion Park) Toilets/ BBQ/ Water/ Dump Point.
  2. Great place to stop and Police include the area in their nightly patrols. Drinking quality water available and we had a campfire (in season).
  3. We stayed 2 years ago on a Saturday night, the police patrolled just after dark, there were no problems. There were about 6 sites for caravans, a couple parked on the road near the park. The lake across the road is a nice spot to walk around.

I have stayed at the Walgett camp about 2 yrs ago. No problems at all. Don't know why they're called primitive camps as there are more facilities there than a lot of others I've stayed at.

We camped in the bush overnight just north of Walgett. Had no problems, but we were well off the road and out of sight from passing traffic. copy and paste this into Google Maps -29.964732, 148.144305 . Or click on the link.

Right Here where the red pin is.

Another suggestion if I may throw it in the mix, is the lovely little caravan park at Gulargambone. The couple that now run it are grandmotherly types like a lot of us and I'm sure they will look after your girls for you. We have stayed there several times and enjoy making it a stop off.

I have stayed at Walgett twice and the free camp there is just fine. Groceries may be a problem unless they have rebuilt one after the fire.

Yes Spida, the supermarket has been rebuilt. I drove through in February, it's very flash.

Coonamble, the drug capital of the west.  Info from those who know.
