Remote Gibb River Road roadhouse closure prompts fears for tourists in outback WA
Permalink Closed

This Article was sent to me from a friend, so thought I'd post here for general interest.

There are fears travellers may get stranded on a popular four-wheel drive tourist track in Western Australia's Kimberley, after the closure of the only service station for hundreds of kilometres.

You beat me to it John.  Still amazes me how people don't bother to read any of the previous posts.  Vic only posted this yesterday.  It's not like it was months ago, and on another page.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Appologies, I should have read ALL the posts not just the PREVIEW for the 4 results I found for the search term Gibb River because the Previews didn't directly relate to the subject.

Steve, Di & Ziggy,

There is not need for you to even think of apologising re the above.
For example, if nobody had posted the articles, there would still have been people complaining as to, why if you knew, that you failed to share the article.
It is better to over communicate then under communicate.
I say well done to you for bringing it to our attention.
By the way I read your article before the other so there, you have made me and many other aware of the issue.
Thanks again
Jay&Dee

Thanks JayDee and RodLainie for the kind words & support.

My reply was more sarcasm than an apology.

To those that critisized me for post duplication, Id also like to point out to that when one does a search, the search only returns results of text found in the body of the post NOT the title so my search would never find anything about that post because the only reference to Gibb River was only in the title AND there was no information in the body just a link which obviously is not searched either.  That said, my post also did not reference Gibb River in the body either so I will now endeavour to include the Title of the topic in the body for future posts so it's text can be found using the search function and would suggest others do the same.

To the Moderators/Site Admins, if you are reading this can I suggest you include the Title of the topic in Search Criteria and Results, this should be a simple setting within your admin panel and if it is not then it wouldn't be that hard to add the extra PHP needed to modify the Search function.

Imintji Store/Road House on Gibb River Road (WA) Closes

(Preview

The above is the original Thread re the Road house.  It seems plain to me, that it's the same place.  You even posted the same Link that Vic did.  It's only nine lines before your Thread.  At the time it was on the same page.  I just didn't see how you could have missed it.

Maybe you're not seeing the same page I am.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Main thing is GN's are aware of it if contemplating travelling Gibb River Road and don't get caught short.

I remember when the Yalata Roadhouse closed on the Nullabor, some got caught out that weren't aware it had been closed down.  Some maps & brochures still showed it as a roadhouse for fuel.

I've been guilty of double posting myself in the past (old fart's disease in my case)......these things happen.

Rather than trying to read every topic on a small screen, regardless of where it fell on the page I opted to search for the topic.  If you think that I, we, or whoever should read all the posts instead, then why do we have a search tool???

When I didn't find a result using the search tool I posted. I missed it because the search didn't return a result, I then posted. The link has nothing to do with it because again that too didn't show in the search results. The second point was to make others aware of how the search tool is currently working and what's needed to make posts show up in a search to help avoid  this situation.

I don't believe under the circumstances that I've done anything wrong here.

Gday...

WOW confuse .... may I sincerely apologise for not realising there are those amongst us who are very sensitive. cry

The majority of forum members would be quite aware of the shortcomings of the search function and probably, like me, rarely use it.

The ONLY reason I included a link to the initial post on the topic was so that those valid and pertinent comments on the 'original' thread would be added to the latter thread. It was in no way meant to be a criticism or denigrating of anyone's effort.

Again, sorry to have twisted anyone's knickers and apologise for touching your sensitivity.

Cheers - John

Setting your post settings in "User Details" to show new and unread threads will help a lot if not done already for anyone posting, especially if in the same section (eg; General Forum).  That bring them to the top so you don't have to scroll down the whole page etc.

In the welcome and forum rules the Webmaster has this advice for looking for new posts etc,

"Order of topics:  As a default, topics on our forum are displayed by the date/time they were created rather than the date they were modified or added to. This means that if someone places a new post on a thread that was initially started several weeks ago, you may not notice it if you use the forums default settings.  If youd like to change the order that posts are displayed on your computer, you can do that on your profile section.  Just click on your own name once youve logged in.  The top left-hand side of the page is labelled the Profile section, and you will see a link entitled settings.  Once you have clicked on the settings link, you can see several options available on the order of topics.  To change it, just select the option you want and ensure you click Save changes at the bottom of that page to store your preferences."

No worries Steve, I just thought posting that might help some of the more recent members that may not be aware of it, not everyone reads the rules/tips etc for the forum, but should. smile

Didn't mean to cause such a ruckus folks.  I just thought it was a bit silly to have both posts so close together.

Cheers,

Sheba.
