wikicamps

Can anyone please advise me?

When I go to download wikicamps for my laptop, it wants me to go through my Microsoft account and that takes me through setting up a backup to the cloud, is this how it works all I want to do is download the app and pay for it using paypal.  I have not done this before so am not sure what to do.  So far I have backed out before going to far into it.  I don't like having too many accounts.

I also wanted to purchase the app for my galaxy s4 phone but once again it wants me to go through another account setup this time through gmail.

So far I have received a code for both and entered them but have not gone ahead with entering my paypal details.  This all seems rather a complicated way to purchase an app

Would appreciate any advise as to whether I should go ahead with completing these account setups.

Thanks, Vee

Might be some new security thing Vee. Not sure why though because you are only checking camping sites etc not banking or similar.

Maybe if you can not go to the cloud back up process and move on to next step.

I have only got "Wiki" on my iPone and iPad for a couple of years now as I use them all the time, I don't remember doing what you describe though. I haven't bothered putting it on my laptop and don't think I will. I have had a few UPDATES for my Wiki Apos lately.

Thanks Dougwe, I have also emailed Wikicamps and their reply was,

"The accounts you're referring to are for using the relative app stores. These accounts allow you to make an app purchase and your purchase is stored in your account. That way if you get a new device in the future, you can sign in to the same account and you won't have to purchase Wikicamps (or other apps) again. You will have to have both a Microsoft account and a Google account to use the two app stores as they're ran by different companies.

You should not have to set up a cloud backup though, so maybe look for an option to turn this off if you do not require it. "

I thought it would be quite simple to just go to wikicamps pay for app and download - silly me!!

I don't know that I will be bothered with it as I truly do not want to have my paypal linked to two other accounts especially these days when we constantly read of accounts being hacked into.

Thanks for your reply,

Cheers, Vee

Look for tick boxes to turn off things like the cloud

If you wish to purchase software products then you have to go through the relevant stores to obtain the apps. It's the same if you are purchasing something from places like DSE or Jaycar.

Vee, unless you're using Windows 8 or a variation of that you won't be able to install Wikicamps onto your non-Apple laptop. That's just the way it is and there's nothing you can do about it. I have no idea about the set up on your non-Apple device but I have recently helped someone install Wikicamps on their Samsung S5 with none of the problems you've encountered - just downloaded and installed the app, waited 14 days and paid for the ongoing version via Paypal and everything went through without a problem.

When paying through Paypal on a one off basis (such as paying for Wikicamps) there is no linkage between the app and Paypal rather, Paypal acts on you instructions to transfer monies from one account (yours) to another (the vendors - in this case Wikicamps). Once the transaction is completed that is it, there's no ongoing connection. Paypal has significantly large security walls and provides heaps of protection from hackers and others who may seek your financial information ... far more than what is provided by your bank so don't stop using it.

Thanks Peter, I shall have another look.  I have a new laptop and it has windows 8 and works with apps which I am still learning about.  This is my first purchase of an app so no doubt it is another learning curve for me.

All help is appreciated

Cheers Vee

Thanks Dave, a new phone and a new laptop have given my little grey cells something of a workout I shall take on board all advise and try to work it out.  With the phone (galaxy s4) I went through the apps search. This did not give me a straight option to download a free trial, took me straight into a pay section and then set up an account.  Is there another way of accessing the wikicamps site?

Cheers, Vee
