First trip report

Hi All, after many weeks waiting for our 16' jayco journey our first caravaning experince arrived. The preceeding week or so was pretty rushed as the van arrived late and then when elec brakes fitted something went wrong with the ABS  braking system. This could not be fixed without a new part even with 2 trips to Nissan. The result was pick up van Wed, pack in the afternoon and then leave Thursday morning. OMG I thought I was towing my house behind me! It felt huge. however, as the days went by I felt more confident. Off we headed to Victoria. First night, a large space for reversing....phew! Then 2 nights in Macedon to see the Eagles play at Hanging Rock. First lesson, dont go down a no through road even if the GPS tells you too! Luckily got out of that one ok. Next lesson, even if you miss a turn off, dont worry, just go around the block or let the GPS re calculate.....you cannot change lanes or do a U turn quickly with a van on the back! Then to Melbourne, Hamilton and Robe and back home to Adelaide. Quite a busy week of stop start for our first trip but that made us learn set up, pack up quite quickly. Driving with a Nissan Pathfinder petrol and average 15 l/100 km , which is what I expected. Next trip just south of Adelaide somewhere for 4 nights in the one spot.

cheers all, hammo

Well, if you came to Melbourne with the new van on the back, you are doing pretty well in the confidence stakes!
