Or you could stay out at the Power station for $5 per night ( they advertise as only for motor homes but heaps of caravans stay there or closer to the Main Road at the Birds Lake Picnic Area for free (the toilets are a little dodgey though). A quick search of Wikicamps reveals a number of other options including additional CPs close to the city.

As an aside, this is probably not the appropriate forum to be posting topics of this nature. Recommendations or Free and Budget Campsites or even the General Forum would result in more people seeing your post.

There is a RV park in Port Augutta - at the sports club, water and a dump point, the club opens every day, and has good meals.

My favourite park in the area is Spear Creek, it's 25 km from the centre of Port Augusta (including the 2 km from the front gate.) Badgers report here.

Seniors card rates were $22 in 2012 and $22.80 in '13. The dozen nice sites are on grass but above and to the back of those are a few more powered sites in natural bushland (don't know if they are cheaper or not.) There is also cheap camping further up the gulley at $7.00 per night when we were there last (and I think the single lone flush dunny was still working.)

Would check before driving out there, last I heard Spear Creek had closed down.

Dave - thank you for dressing me down about the location of my post - I will try (not) to remember this in future!!

For those calling it various things, it appears on wikicamps to be called the Port Augusta Motorhome Park which is on the Princess HW east of Augusta and although the comments on wikicamps conflict, it seems that depending which club official you strike, you need to be fully self contained - that means, grey and black water, shower, toilet and since 2013 its been $7 a night. Dave before you get stuck into others, how about getting your facts right rather than having a go at someone and then getting it all wrong anyway (and we're both quoting wikicamps)

just to confirm spear creek is NOT closed and is still a very quiet and beautiful c/p sunset over the gulf superb ,

According to the notice board AT that site a month ago 'self contained' means "must have own toilet". No mention of requiring a grey water tank.

I don't think Dave was doubting the validity of your post, he just suggested a different sub-forum on this forum may have been a better place to post to get most visibility.

Another vote for Spear Creek, we stayed there overnight early last month. Nice and quiet and peaceful bush setting. Amenities were spotless also. Talking to the managers, who seemed very nice, they told us they would be leaving later in the year and someone else would be taking over.
