Yes, I would be buying Camps8 if I had had 5.
Ive had 5 and 7, won't worry about 8. Will get 9 in 2 years time. I always pass on my old one to a nomad who hasnt got one at all.

we also bought the expensive large and picture (I cant read) Camps 8 and haven't used it.

I now use wikicamps to decide where we MAY (if it turns out to be ok when we arrive) stay and then my HEMA GPS to get me there.

Wish I hadn't bought the Camps 8 book..........

G'day P & A

Well we're different from those above -

We've had Camps 4 then 6 then 8 and use C-8 exclusively

The best part is having it on the kitchen table and doing a visual swap between our maps & tourist brochures & camp sites all side by side as we plan the big-picture for our travels

Often when out & about we find nil or poor telstra connection, so the phone's no good ... so the paper maps become essential

Also -
Our style of driving / camping is NOT the main highways and the main towns ... we leave them for others & the big B-double road trains
We'll use the smaller back roads, stopping at all sorts of small places, villages etc, often in their local recreation ground and we walk into town for MT and shopping for whatever is needed. We well realise that the big supermarket chains 'might' have things a bit cheaper, but we'd rather put a few extra dollars into the small towns that we see along the way

Hope this helps a bit
Phil

you can use wikicamps off-line when there is no phone service - it still shows up the map with all the free and CP sites. Just make sure you have a good GPS that will work outside of cities (some don't) and I always carry paper Hema maps of each State so I can plan and see the bigger picture.

Camps books are good - go have a look at one in a newsagency, but make sure they sell you Camps 8 if you buy it. The previous Camps 7 is now 2 years old and shouldn't be on retailers shelves - but they still are !!

You can also go on-line at look at the various sizes you can buy the book - they come in soft and hard cover, various sizes, some have pics of most sites, others have a spiral binding (highly recommended to avoid breaking the book spine)

We purchased 20 months of Caravan & Motorhome (usually $8/$9 per month) for $135 and camps 8 was a freebie.

We have wiki camps but still like to plan our trips with the assistance of Camps 6/8 that makes the journey more interesting and some times better than the destination.
