Waeco 12v Kettle

Thought I buy a 12v kettle, thought it would save me having to get out and turn the gas on when I want a cuppa, you know, don't want to be seen in my dressing gown bla bla bla,.

Well this b!@#$dy thing, took 23 mins to get to a heat that was bearable for coffee, but it wouldn't switch off.,  So much for saving me time., its quicker to turn the gas on.,

Took it back to BCF., they refunded me no questions asked..., me thinks they new it wasn't going to work...., still looking for alternatives to gas..., -Fran

What about the time honoured method of packing a thermos in the morning? I am new to caravanning but think the idea of turning on the gas is great when you compare it to getting out the gas stove finding the matches etc etc then having to wait for everything to cool down again before packing it all away into its personal gap in the boot. It didn't take long for the thermos to take on this convenient role. Cheers.

If you had have compared the power consumption of the 12 V heater with that of a 240V jug you should have seen that it would have taken a lot longer to boil. People who use those 12 V models use them on the run, the passenger has it between his/her feet for the last half hour before the morning tea stop.

As Abigail said, use a vacuum flask for morning tea stops. Most of us who don't look for coffee shops carry them. My cook fills one each morning, that way if we suddenly want to go somewhere we can take morning tea with us and she is ready to go.

That morning tea/coffee when still in dressing gown seems to be the issue. It says to me you have your gas turned off at the bottle if you don't want to be seen.
When I arrive I turn my gas on, I can have a hot drink anytime I like. Before I leave I fill the thermos for during the day, then turn the gas off for travel.
By the way I don't carry a dressing gown. Don't find I've needed one.

If you have an adeqate inverter hooked up to a suitable capacity battery bank then turn the inverter on and use a 240v kettle or jug.

We not only do that but we also make toast using the inverter and a 240v toaster.

Well I think I have found the right kettle for me, got it from Rays Outdoors, it folds inside itself, can fit in my grill when travelling.

Fill a thermos before you go to bed Fran. It will give you a cuppa before you get dressed.

Got the same kettle in the Coaster, boss puts it on only when were driving & I can see when the light goes out in the rear view mirror then its time to stop for a cuppa, takes about 20-25 minutes. If the gas is off in the morning we just use the lunchbox stove to boil the kettle, been using them for years without an issue although the instructions say "don't use indoors"
Have seen a gas solenoid on a motorhome where you turn the gas master supply on & off with a switch in the galley!!

yep i know where the master gas switch is, but i didn't think it would be safe to keep switching it on and off? Isn't it dangerous driving with the gas bottles on all the time?

Yep this is an old post, BUT.... For anyone else thinking of purchasing a Waeco 12v Kettle, i suggest you do so. There is no issue with the kettle if you have a 20 Amp lighter socket however most cars, utes and vans only have 10 or 15 Amp lighter sockets.... hence it'll never boil. With a 20 Amp socket it will boil usually in 22 minutes, you can get an Auto Elec to upgrade your existing socket or install a new one.
