Thursday 12 March 2015 - 6:18 AM
A YELLOW ALERT is current for people in or near coastal communities between Mardie and Coral Bay, extending inland to Nanutarra. This includes the locations of Onslow, Exmouth, Nanutarra and Coral Bay.

CYCLONE DETAILS:

As at 5.55am the Bureau of Meteorology advises category 2 Tropical Cyclone Olwyn is estimated to be 345 kilometres north northwest of Karratha and 455 kilometres north northeast of Exmouth.

It is moving south southwest at 15 kilometres per hour.

TC Olwyn continues to intensify as it moves towards the west Pilbara coast. Olwyn will be near the west Pilbara coast early on Friday morning with landfall expected in the vicinity of Exmouth. Olwyn is forecast to intensify to a severe tropical cyclone prior to making landfall.

After crossing the coast the system will weaken as it moves southwards, though it is expected to take heavy rain and squally winds into southern parts of Western Australia.

Well the cyclone went through Exmouth last night. the poor people who live there, its less than a year since their town was seriously flooded, now its been blown to bits, barely any trees left standing, 10 houses had roof damage, and of course no power. Lifes hard in those remote places.. Hope any visiting Grey Nomads left with plenty of time, its a long way to safety.

I was talking o a Bloke this morning who has a Daughter living in Exmouth, he said that he rang her to make sure they were all safe,

Her reply was, "Yep" all's good here, but the front lawn has been blown away, now that's some wind !!! crycrycry

If you are in the area, stay safe people.

That's what we love about outback people, their sense of humour!
