Which Napisan Equivalent for use in toilet

looking to get the common brand napisan equivalent for our van toilet. Went into Reject store but they only had Vanish. Into Coles and purchased Ultra Booster plus everyday soaker  has a blue label. it says active ingredient 346g/kg but doesn't say what it actually is. Have I got the right stuff. Local Woolies didn't have any homebrand on the shelf either.

I use Woolies Select Brand Soaker and Stain Remover. 2kg plastic bottle. Don't recall cost. Active ingredient is Sodium Percarbonate 346 gr/kilo.

I think that the general view is that if there is at least 30% (300gms/KG) of the active ingredient Sodium Percarbonate then it is OK.

That's what I've been using successfully for a decade or so.

Just use a cap full with a liter of hot water.  Empty every 3 days or so.

I prefer to add a few drops of Eucalyptus oil to give a pleasant smell & although it is an antiseptic it doesn't seem to interfere with the process.  I suppose that any essential oil would do the trick.  A Glen 40 spray might be OK too.

I also use a spray can of olive oil on the rubbers to keep them in good condition(as recommended by a Thelford rep - mine are 15 years old & still OK) and to the bowl to make it slippery.

Before emptying the cassette, I clean the bowl with the usual toilet bowl cleaners.

Any toilet paper is OK to use.  No need to buy the expensive 'special' chemical toilet stuff.

After each trip I soak the cassette with a double shot of the nappysan stuff, for a few days & leave it open in the sun to air.  Then a shot of eucalyptus & some olive oil on the rubbers before re inserting it into the system.

The Woolworths homebrand nappy soaker now has only 28% sodium percarbonate in it.

Not the 34% it used to have. Vanish has 30%.

jbrinks, the Coles one has 34.6% sodium percarbonate.

If the nappy soaker you get has less than 30% sodium per carbonate (it is usually in minis use size print, somewhere on the container), you will most likely need to use a bit more each time.

I purchased a 2kg container of Supreme nappy soaker at the Reject Shop, is 34%.  $2.00!!

The use of Napisan in toilets is sure a cheap way of keeping the system clean but, can anyone tell me, How much do you use,

Is it watered down like you do with the Toilet chemical, which by the way costs almost $20.00 per/ lt  at Rays Outdoor centre.

Or do you just buy 2l at a time, of Napisan then toss the lot into the bowl, ???  confuseconfuseconfuse

KJ - the nappy soaker we are talking about is in powder form, as I said above I got a 2kg container for $6 at the Reject Shop, this will last quite a while, 1kg possibly in a month. Check the sodium percarbonate % - above 30% (sometimes it says 340 or such like that - so 34% - 340 whatever it is) - is best, if under, say 26%, use a bit more, or more often.

I use the cap of the container as a measure, and use a capful, dry, straight into the canister, no need to mix with anything else - have tried lots of things, and found that a couple of drops of eaucalyptus oil keeps odours away. I dose the loo every day with the nappy soaker and the eaucylyptus, wipe the bowl out with eaucy as well, makes it smell nice, and kills germs at the same time.

I fill up the cap of the canister and just toss it in down the Shute where it's screwed on to ,add a little water and it works just fine . I used to measure it out dilute it and then toss it in through the pan but now I do it as per above its a lot easier doing it all from out side no stress and it works . One cap full does one full canister .Currently useing supreme from the reject shop .No

smells even when useing the loo for nb 2 s

Thanks for the advice People, I'll be trying this idea in the next couple of weeks as we head down through the burnt-out South West.

We use "BOOST" from Woolies.   Its in a purple container.   Two desert spoons per bottom tank when emptied.   Dissolve in warm water first.

Cheers

The Pine o Clean is counter productive. You start with a chemical that produces a composting action if you defecate into it. After a few days the chemical runs down and then you add a chemical that kills the composting action. What you should be doing is adding more of the chemical (sodium per carbonate) that promotes the composting action.

 Spot on Peter.

Kiwijims, if you've been using the nasty chemicals for a while it would be a good idea to give the cassette a thorough good scrub to remove any formaldehyde residue, (yes all those chemicals, even the so called green ones contain it or a derivative of it, nasty stuff indeed).

Peter is spot on with his post re using Pine o Clean - it negates the action of the sodium percarbonate - whereas eaucalyptus oil, is just that, an oil, and sits on top of the liquidised "product" in the cassette. Don't know why I didn't mention it myself - must be old age catching up!

KJ - if it is the brand name Napisan - look carefully, in extra fine print the sodium percarbonate percentage - will most likely be 26% - just use a large capful when you dose. As for eaucylptus oil - Aldi have a good sized bottle for, I think $6.99. The other supermarkets have them as well, but I found Aldi cheaper. Clean loos??? never ending job really.
