DUMP POINTS. GREY WATER HOSES.

Just new Grey Nomads with a Toyota Coaster.

Can anyone tell me from their experiences, the length of hose possibly needed for accessing Grey Water Dump Points, both in Caravan Parks and Free-Camp sites.

The company from whom we purchased our Motorhome are quite difficult to deal with and provided no hoses or advice.

Can't see the sense in trying to wrap and unwrap 20 metre hoses, which appears to be the length of 25mm hose most outlets want to sell.

 

(I am also new to this type of forum and posts, so hope this reaches out and achieves its objective)

Welcome to the forum Garrie. I haven't had a problem sourcing different lengths of sullage hose - just do a Google search. I have two pieces, one 10 metres long and the other 5 metres. They're 32 mm, smooth bore and haven't found anywhere that I can't access dump points with this combination. The smooth bore makes them easier to clean.

I got a 20meter grey water hose, cut it into 5 meter lengths and bought some joiners.

It's done the job for three and half years.

I carry 4m.
If that is too short, I would use a bucket.

Most of the Caravan and RV online stores will sell 25mm flat Sullage/Grey Water hoses on a wind up  reel. Takes up less space and easier to store.

I do know Camec sell them.

My experience for what its worth, is that the black water dump points are generally within three metres of the road. I know it could be a bit of a bugger to get a large van close to some of them, but a motorhome like yours should be able to park very close to the dump point meaning you'll need a short, say four metre hose. But like others have said, a bit extra is good insurance. Normal grey water drains can be anywhere, left side, right side, sometimes near the power post, sometimes van parks don't have them at all. That's when we have to be a bit clever getting rid of our waste water.

Thanks to everyone.
I purchased 2 x 10 metre lengths of 25mm Marine Flex hose, (smooth bore).
I ditched the silly pipe fittings that Motorhome Conversion company had fitted to each of the 2 grey water tanks, and installed 90 degree elbows on the valve fittings now with screw-on male fittings.
The idea is that now I have fitted the hoses with screw-on female fittings, which is so much easier than trying to shove a piece of plastic pipe on and off over the ridged fittings they had provided. Just like hooking up a garden hose now, and the hoses can now be attached to a water tap and flushed clean after use.
I was wanting to make a couple of different lengths, that could similarly be attached to one another, so I could mix and match lengths according to the required distance.

I was pretty much looking for information as to other members experience with how close they had been able to get their vans/mobile homes to the actual dumping points at various locations.

5m should be enough . Easier to clean at that length.. Haven't been to a dump point having issues with getting close..

I hope you hook up to your own hose or tap and not directly to a potable water tap that some one else in going to connect to their van tanks for drinking.

Thanks Jim, excellent point. Will definitely watch out that does not happen. I have made an additional short fitting as a go-between so there are no contaminated seals, and when on the road, or at parks, will use only non-potable water supply outlets.

I did exactly what you have done, only mine is a caravan. Hose was too long and now carry two; one short, one long; and got sick of trying to force hose over connection so did what you have done and no problem, except some of the grey water dumps are almost too high for the caravan's grey water outlet and that does cause a problem sometimes.

  1. Hi.Yesterday i purchased 2 x 10m hoses from Bunnings for $9.97 each.Whilst not top quality it's better than paying over $30.00 from a camping store.
