A trip into the Tarkine Leatherwood Forest

Went for a trip into the Leatherwood Forest

Cause we put our Bees out there every year

And camped out there for a while after setting up

Camp and cutting a bit of fire wood started the

Hard work

Then checked out the river (the Hellyer)

And the Bush around the camp twas quite pretty

Well tis all in the same general area

The Hellyer river runs into the Arthur

I believe but where we were was off the

Murchison hiway we turned off

Before Hellyer gorge and tis about

15 or so Km of dirt going in you would

Not get a caravan or large motor home

In there a camper van maybe but the

Tracks are quite overgrown in places

A quite narrow with fallen trees to

Negotiate at times but a 2wd would make

It quite easily

Forgot to add we leave the Bee hives out there for around 6 weeks

Till the trees stop flowering --- Leatherwood honey is a Tassie only product

dIng, whenever I get the chance I buy leatherwood honey . The last lot I bought was in Beechworth Vic. , somehow it is very runny ,I have never had it like that. Last year I brought leatherwood honey back from Tassie which was a lot firmer , did someone mixed it up with what ever here on the mainland ? Cheers

It was probably not pure leatherwood maybe diluted with sugar syrup

Tis quite a common trick unfortunately but often used the mongrels

If you can buy candied (solid Leatherwood) cause it goes that way

Naturally and if you warm it gently under 50 degrees it will return

To its natural liquid state but it seems to be in short supply last year

And not much around this year so far but we live in hope
