Car Fridges

Hi Everyone, My name is Dave (TBird)

I'm new to the Forum and really enjoying reading thru this Form as I'm planning my retirement and some road trips

But I have a question:

with most refrigeration units they blow out or exhaust warm air into the cabin space,

Is that also the case with these Engel or equivalent car fridge /Freezer units as per the link below, Any help greatly appreciated.

Dave Hi,

Welcome to the forum & happy travels.

Yes they expel hot air into the cabin. I run a 40l Engel & a 25l Waeco both specs require 75mm air space around them, in reality more is better. When I changed vehicle 18 months ago with rear aircon the better efficiency was noticeable.

Waeco or Engel??? Have had excellent service from both units. Having said that if either needed replacing I would spend the extra on another Engel.

Mike.

We also run a fridge/freezer in the back of the Territory - it's a 50l Waeco copy with the Danfoss compressor same as Waeco but price was $430 new on Ebay. Used it set at -20 as a freezer for 3 months whilst on last big trip so cannot fault it.
I must admit that if I wasn't such a tight-a*s I'd buy one of the steel case Engels but so far no problems with the cheapy which probably came from the same factory as the Waeco as it's identical except in name (Indel B).
Good Luck.

Welcome to the gang Tbird, enjoy here and out in the playground.

I have one of the Engel Fridges in the link and find it good. I have it set up in the back of my Colorado in the canopy section. I have gaps all round and causes no problems at all. I leave the side window open on hot days when stationary and I am around. It is not running when not near the CV or tug is staionary in a car park etc as I do not have a second battery set up. It runs on the car battery when driving and vans battery when stationary at camp etc.

Hi Dave. We've had an Engle 45ltr engle for 3 years and no worries. We have used it as both fridge alone and freezer alone. Works great on both settings. Great little unit. We would highly recommend it.

i know of people with Waco that feel the same. We could only get the Engle with the steel body at the time. BCF have them on special here in Sydney at the moment. 20% off their entire range.

cheers,

Lauriesmile

Anaconda often have special deals on Waeco. Pays to join 1st as a free club member.

We bought a 50 lt Waeco about 6mnths ago which included a cover not only to keep it clean, but it is insulated. very solid metal stand, a Waeco cap (whoopee) and 2 x deck chairs. Saved us $700 off the normal price of just the Waecon unit. We have it set at -18c for freezing. Plugged into ute when on the move and van when stopped
