The only park on the town for caravaners/campers have sold their water front sites for private houses! Which will leave only about half a dozen plus sites for the whole town as the other park (top one) is cabins and permanents only, and as the council has banned freedom camping on the town, Swansea is a closed shop!
Good News! The Swansea Holiday Park has been sold to new owner/managers who have spent five years caravanning on the mainland. True, the beachfront sites have been split off, but they were mostly occupied by permanents. The rest of the park is being redeveloped specifically to cater for visitors. As of June 2016 about half of the remaining permanent vans have moved off. There is still a walkway to the beach, all of 30m. A further 30m to the north, Council has installed a beachfront garden seat - the Sunset Lounge - which is great place to take in the unrestricted view of the sunset shadows creeping over the magnificent Freycinet Peninsula and Schouten Island. Council has even provided a bin on the way back to the Park for any used beverage containers . There's free camping area at Mayfield Bay, about 20km south of Swansea, but it gets crowded in summer and is very shady in winter. Swansea is an easy 2 hour drive from either Hobart or Launceston, has a couple of well stocked supermarkets and a medical centre. With the development happening in the Holiday Park it might be worth another look.
