This one isn't free, but budget, right next to the beach. Hot showers, unpowered, BBQ. At this time of year uncrowded weekdays. Recommended.

do you have wikicamps - heaps of free and low cost sites round the country - costs you about $8 for a year to subscribe.

Also Camps 8 book - this edition has only been published for a couple of weeks

G'day Jeanne

We've just had a few days at Coopernook state forest, about 1/2-hour north of Taree
Camps-6, #N084, Camps-8, #N085
It's about 10 minutes off the main hwy, nice & quiet ~ in fact most noise is the magpies warbling each morning

As others ^ also suggest - wiki or CAW book & you'll find dozens of places to stay

Safe travels :)
Phil

Thanks all - found a great spot - Lions patk at Bulahdeal. The tourist info centre also told us of the bowling club here - $5 for a temporary membership (3 days max) and you can park on a spare block next to the bowling club and access their hit showers and toilets during opening hours.
