Caravan locking device

Hi All, next question...the van will be stored away from my house but in a secure lockup. I was thinking as an extra precaution I would use some sort of toe ball or wheel lock? Any suggestions about style, brand etc

thanks

Hammo

Howdy Hammo, welcome to the play ground.

I use this type of tow coupling lock, it may not be every-ones choice but, I feel confident it's strong enough to deter any would be thief.

Hi Hammo ,Mate in todays society and everybody has a battery grinder well....... nothing will stop a dedicated thief. However the pic is my shed and the ins co likes my additional clamp for starters. Now if I was not looking at my van for say 3 months I would remove a wheel . Also it is only 4 bolts to take off the towball set up too.It just depends on how lazy or conversely how keen you are to keep your van . In a perfect world remove all wheels and leave it on stands ! cheers John

I use the same towbar lock as KJ but I've replaced the provided padlock which was pretty crap. While a cordless grinder will chew through just about anything you'll be hard pushed to prevent a dedicated thief who really wants your van. Removing the wheels and using stands as suggested by John probably provides the best protection.

Regards

Dave

That's what I have done  and still do now and then,   Stand Jack and remove a wheel and  the spare.

Although I now have a removable  Electric Jockey wheel  and am able to park the camper  with the Tow Hitch  into the corner of a  wall.     Inaccessible to a vehicle for hitching  up.  It also means the camper door is on the side nearest the house, which is the reason we park it that way in the first place.     Bit of a bugger if the jockey wheel karks it.   But I can rig up and  still tow it out,    which is a performance.

A thought.   Not sure what your storage arrangement is.  But.       Have you checked with the storage people as to their requirements re immobilization of a stored van.    They may require it to be  mobile in the event of Fire etc.
