A first for us

Well this week is a first for us .........

 

After 15 years we are sleeping in our van in our own back yard.

 

Why you might ask.

Long story but we are in the process of having all the upstairs floors sanded & polished.

This means moving out all the furniture, clothes from the wardrobes and pictures & paintings off the walls.  Fortunately we have a high set house with lots of downstairs storage.

We can access the downstairs bathroom & toilet via the back entrance. So its just like having an ensuite site.  As well we can use the downstairs lounge & TV.  So that's just like a camp kitchen.

The work will be finished by the end of the week & then comes the massive job of putting all the stuff back without damaging the new floor.

 

So, after a week in the backyard & the restoration process we will be off to  Noosa River CP  for a break & then perhaps a few days up at the lake to fill up the freezer with Red Claw.

 

Then it's time to get into an update of the back outdoor area and fit new garage doors, replacing the old tilta doors with the auto roll up type.  Of course SWMBO will enjoy shopping for new rugs and things  ( and just between you & I, I enjoy all the planning & finishing of these projects).

Our previous home in Brisbane was a Suncoast built highset with the most beautiful polished Frazier Island hardwood floor. It was soooo nice.

I wonder what sort of timber it was.  I think that was either Blackbutt,  which is still widely used for flooring or possibly Satinay as lots of it has been used for flooring and it has a great grain & color.  

My floors are Iron Bark, or at least that's what the experts say and it certainly is hard enough.  It may not be as spectacular as yours as it has a rather regular grain.  We'll see once the fine sand is done but (as they would) the Sanders all said that it will come up well.

We were going to fit engineered plantation full Merbu floating floor but the surface wasn't suitable.  A bit of a pity as it was a beautiful timber, but the change saved us many thousands of dollars.

A final (closing) comment.

The floor job is done & dusted if you'll pardon the pun.

 

What a fantastic improvement.  More than happy with the outcome. The Grey Iron Bark has come up beautifully.

Particularly chuffed with the final price, which was >$10,000 less than the particular floating floor that we had chosen & cancelled when floor suitability issues arose.  Got our full deposit of $6,000 back too.  We had chosen plantation Merbu engineered timber on a Merbu base .. top quality at a top price.

ps.  Changed our vanning getaway to Tallebudgera rather than Noosa River.  Will be there for the Anzac week.  Look out for us in the crowd at the Elephant Rock Anzac service & later at the Surf Club restaurant ... have already booked a Family table for 14.
