If you are in an area that is about to change over to NBN fibre service, think again about purchasing or the free modem/router or router option.

I have been on the NBN for 2 years, at first I was not impressed because it didn't seem to be much faster than ADSL2, are starting to run various speed tests I found the Modem/Router supplied was not getting the required speed. the ISP (iinet) were fantastic in trying to resolve the speed issue to the point of on 3 occasions sending me new preconfigured Modem/Routers al suffered the same speed issues, and showing me that I could connect directly from the NTD to my Ethernet port ( running the speed test it was at max speed).

This lead me to believe that the issue was with the BoB Lite and BoB2 Modem/Routers which were designed for ADSL2 and then upgraded to be used with NBN Fibre, so to prove my theory I purchased a D-Link DIR-626L Gigabit router, immediately on connecting it delivered almost max speed. To iinets credit they gave me 6 months free access for mu issues.

My D-Link played up the other day so to insulate myself from future problems, I decided to create a whole new network at home all based around an 8 port gigabit switch, as suggested in a previous thread.

This is a pic of my new network which works a treat with no speed loss, with an up side my Smart TV can be connected either 2.4/5 wireless or via Ethernet port which it is now and its faster than wireless

So now the only devices that connect wirelessly are phones and tablet.

If you want a VOIP telephone service you will need a suitable VOIP adaptor.

When we move to a life on the road later this year a similar setup will be fitted to the Van, except for the NTD it will Mobile Broadband, I'm also now looking into USB to Ethernet gender benders for phones and tablet when they are in their docks.
