Hi, Has anyone fished and camped at the mouth of the fortascue river wa., have been told you have to cross the river to the camp ground and boat ramp, if so what is the crossing like and is it ok for a normal on road van and what`s the fishing like there.
Used to fish the mouth years ago, yes a river crossing, only at low slack tide, do not know what the bottom is like now, would suggest be prepared to set up at the crossing. Lots of midges and mosquitoes as its mangrove area.
Im told that there is a mining lease and camp now not far from the boat ramp, so not as remote and private as it was when I was last there in the 80s.
rocks to the right of the boat ramp is a good platform for fishing, take heavy gear, very fast tide flow. Do not swim.
Species, North West Snapper, Mangrove Jack, BarramundI, shark. Do not know about crocs these days wether they have migrated that far south.
