Scary stuff, fires near homes - was in Victoria during the last devastating fires - frightening though we were quite a long way away. Knew several people in Marysville, which got almost completely burnt out, and also in Yea, which luckily was saved, and used as a staging point.

This fire is growing by the hour. It's massive and uncontrolled, have a look at the size of it............

 BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR:
The fire is still out of control and unpredictable south of the Northcliffe townsite and west of Windy Harbour Road.
The fire east of Deeside Coast Road is out of control and unpredictable, threatening South Western Highway.
The fire perimeter is 196 kilometres long and 48,000 hectares have been burnt.
The fire behaviour is strong and unpredictable.
Winds during the day are expected to be gusty.
There are winds from the north this morning. A wind change is expected early afternoon to a west south westerly.
Spot fires are starting up to 100 metres ahead of fires.

Windy harbour township is at the bottom lower point of land, only one road in and out of this place.

Here's an aerial shot of the fire advancing on Windy Harbour...........

A bushfire threatens Windy Harbour

All roads leading to the tiny community have been closed.

Residents have been told it is not safe to leave Windy Harbour and that they should evacuate to the beach and take instructions from caretaker John Old.

Authorities said a worst case scenario could see them evacuated from the area by sea.

People with boats are heading to the area, including Augusta boat owner Steve Hughes, who said it would take three hours to reach Windy Harbour.

We're grateful that some Victoria fire staff have come over here - good on them!!

It was amazing to watch our local TV news last night and how people just accepted what was happening as "its nature at work", full of praise for the emergency staff and accepting that when they eventually get back to their properties, there may be no house standing
