Spending is more popular than saving.  'Gubbermints' have big buckets of money that never runs out.  Everybody knows that.

Unemployment is fixed by putting more people on the guvvy payroll.

However, there is no doubt that the particular brand of strong medicine the LNP usually prescribes is being challenged for its impact on lower income people, such as students, the elderly and so on. It was really shortsighted and damned harsh for instance to rip the guts out of TAFEs and stuff up student travel concessions on public transport. Interesting days ahead.

What annoys is that every time there is a change of local member the taxpayer is up for outfitting new electoral office.  Depending on the pollie, that costs in the hundreds of thousands per each.  Why can't the incoming politician take over the electoral office and gear of the departing one?  It is bad enough that the taxpayer is up for all sorts of technology for the home/s of members.  None of the stuff is reused, it is all written off.

Here is a previous example, a new federal senator, but it will do to make the point,

biggrin  It would take that sort of hint to get the attention of the officer commanding the squadron of engineers.

Campbell should have taken a leaf out of the book of Clem Jones a surveyor and much loved (ex-)Lord Mayor of Brisbane.  Clem got heaps accomplished in his life because he knew how to listen and take people with him.  Mind you, there were some around both who could have taken some load off them too.  That never changes.

John - youre so right about the polies electoral offices.

Our local one had 10 yr lease taken out on it (a very expensive suite in a new office block). The guy lasted one election and when the one from the other party moved in - guess what......he wanted and got a different office with new staff and office furniture and equipment.

These idiots keep telling us to tighten our belts, but they sure as hell don't lead by example!!

As for Campbell. well Im in WA, so could only see and hear what the press decided to show us, but it seemed like the QLD economy was out of control......but Campbell went too fast in cutting back and upset a lot of people with his "youre with me or against me" type attitude.

Now we'll no doubt see the QLD budget get worse and lots more public servants pushing pens and controlling our lives

A man is walking along a beach when he comes across a lamp partially buried in the sand.
He picks up the lamp and gives it a rub. A genie appears and tells him he has been granted one wish.
The man thinks for a moment and says, "I want to live forever."

"Sorry," said the genie, "I'm not allowed to grant eternal life."

"OK, then, I want to die after a Labor government balances the budget and eliminates the debt.

"You crafty little sod," said the genie.

Lord Campbell. He was going to fix everything, whether people wanted him to or not. Looks like the people well and truly fixed him. I bet the team captain in Canberra is looking over his shoulder watching out for the inevitable.

I still have a tshirt where Joh Bjelke is bending over , and the sun was shining out of his ass. It say ' Come and see the Sunshine state". He was as arrogant as Cambell Newman. They both got thrown out.The QLD people have spoken.

It saddens me to hear that alzheimers disease is on the jncrease in Queensland. Memory loss can and will destroy the whole state, one only has to read  Sunday`s paper for  the proof.

I still don't get it. Do you mean to say that all Tory politicians have donkeys?

Not worth a wrinkled brow fellas. Julia Gillard' 'Captain's Pick' for the Order of Australia was an Indian cricketer. Something that just popped into her head while cruising at 35,000 feet in the VIP Boeing 737. Julia amazed her own advisers and colleagues at the time.

There is something in the water in Canberra (George St, Bne too).

A bit of fun, safely aimed at the pollies' servants (as the pollies see them),

I think this post is still amusing and it has got to political and therefore nasty and personal - hope it carries on a bit longer.............always interesting to see how different people have different takes on a pollie.

My wife and I are SO far apart on politics that we try to avoid discussing it, even round voting time. She'll sometimes start to foam at the mouth when the Australian Captain appears on TV, so I just let her go for a few mins and say nothing - just get her a towel to wipe her face off lol

When Our esteemed Pm decided that Phil the greek needs a Knighthood more than Richie Benaud, something is definitely wrong.Sad, really. It just shows how out of touch he is.No , Dorian, I think they are donkeys with just about the same brains.

Thanks for your input, everyone.  As we have mentioned in our 'forum rules', we do not allow political discussions on this forum as they tend to lead to bad feelings.  I'm closing this down now.
