Cleaning Awnings

HI everyone,

Pete and i have been working in Yeppoon for the last four months and its time to get back on the road. In the time we have been sitting here the awning has become quite dirty from the trees, birds and salt/dust in the air,

other than the normal soap and water what else will work to get the more stubborn marks off.

thanks in advance

sylva

If its mildew a cupful of vinegar in a bucket of water (with a drop of detergent) works well. Rinse off. You cant use bleach on the awning unfortunately.

In a word Napisan, mix a capfull well in a bucket of warm/hot water with a squirt of morning fresh, I use a kitchen mop, the sponge type or the micro fibre one, coat liberally with the suds then wash off with clean water.
Allow to dry thoroughly before rolling up.

I used to do it with a small hand sponge but the mop idea is much quicker and easier on the shoulders. Been using this method for 3 years now and still as good as new.

I use 30 seconds outdoor cleaner from a big hardware shop

spray it on, leave for 30 seconds give it a scrub with a broom and hose it off

works very well

Frank HI,

Be a little careful with the 30 second outdoor cleaner, it is chlorine based & a bit stronger solution than bleach.

Mike.

Chemtech products are tops. Made in Oz. Use this one,

Cheap @ $12.95 litre

Leaves a protecting film.

Thanks Mike
I have been using it for a while with no adverse results

I do use it sparingly.

There is an awning cleaning product that you can buy from any caravan accessories shop I don't remember the name and I have run out but it works very well. After cleaning my awning I give it a liberal spray with armoral and roll it up this helps to protect it and also stops mould forming whilst not in use.
Next time I roll it out I give the awning a wipe over using piece of towling on the end of a broom.

Is it made of plastic man made fibre or canvas type ?
Too much chlorine on canvas will eat it ..
Arma all is basically. Silicon ans assist in water sealing..
