After losing my 17 yo chihuahua I started thinking that my remaining 10 year old Kelpie cross would be my last dog. I get so attached to them that I'm devastated at losing them. Then I read this.
MY DOG'S LAST WILL & TESTAMENT
Before human beings die they write their last will & testament & leave their home & all they have to those they love. I would do such if I could write.
To a poor & lonely stray I'd give my happy home,
My bowl & cozy bed
My soft pillow & toys.
The so loved lap
The tenderly stroking hand
The sweet voice which called my name
I'd will to the sad & scared shelter dog
The place I held in my human's heart
Of which there seemed no bounds.
When I die please don't say
I will never have another pet
The loss is far too much to stand
Choose a lonely unloved dog
And give her a place in your heart
Right next to mine
This is my inheritance; my last will & testament
The love I leave behind
Is all I am able to give
Please pass it on to another in remembrance of me.

That is so beautiful. We have given two dogs from the pound a new forever home and are not sorry we did this. Our last ones owner went into a nursing home and them passed away so he was very sad when we got him. Both of the dogs we got love to travel in the caravan. Will do it again in a heart beat

Mine's a kelpie cross, too. In fact both of my dogs are/were from the RSPCA. I don't know why people go to dog breeders when there are plenty of great companions in the shelters.
That said, I, too, was devastated when I lost my first dog, so my kelpie will be my last. I just hope I outlive her.

We too got our Billie Blu from the R.S.P.C.A Gympie and she has been the best little dog we have ever owned (Billie Blue is a stumpy tailed cattle dog)
Great friend, great traveller and greatest watch dog ever. Seems like dogs that come from shelters are the best i reckon .
Excellent. On my 3rd pound dog and they have always been the best.
dorian, Sue and I hope sasha ( a female Wolfhound/Ridgeback cross) goes first so we can give her a proper burial, not leaving it in the hands of strangers and an incinerator.

No, I'm not busy, I did it right the first time.
Self-powered wheelie walker, soon a power chair (ex. Nomad)
I rescued my Denis from death row and we had 18 wonderful months together until his 4th heart attack. I still have his heart medication if anyone has a dog on meds. PM me if anyone can use it. He was a great little mate and I miss him so much,
Our last dog went at 18. He was a rescued boy, and we loved him. 14 months later, I still get teary.
We tried to get pound dogs. Because of our lifestyle, we were found unsuitable. We are both fit and healthy, responsible dog owners, and had/have an abundance of love to give. So we went to breeders. We looked at a few that were being given away, but they were all older dogs, and realistically, pups were going to be easier for us.
We were knocked back by 1 breeder, for the same reasons as the pound. The other 2, one of them a breeder of WKC-registered kelpies, had no problems, all they wanted to know was were we able to give the dogs the care required, and would we love them.
Our boys frustrate us at times, but they also provide us with so much joy. They are well-behaved, well cared for, and very loved. We would be lost without them. I would like to think they would live long enough to be our last dogs, but I don't think kelpies live that long :(

Seriously? That's sad. I hope I live long enough to ensure that my two are loved and cared for the way they are used to until they die.
