fire still going and getting nearer to us at Yanchep. Wind has died down but expected to crank up tomorrow. So far 1000 hectacres burnt and unknown houses gone. Also heading towards major population area of Butler. If it comes towards us, we have a state park opposite us with about 500m of clear ground to houses in our street. Fingers crossed!!! All arvo the sun has been deep orange from the huge smoke pall over Nthern Perth

The amazing things you see when nomading Australia
We live on the South Side, the smoke is plainly visible from here,
Our home backs onto Tonkin Highway and all afternoon we have heard fire trucks heading North,
reinforcements are being bought in from all over the State,
Listening to the Fire brigade radio via scanner, they are having one hell of a time
We hope you folks are ready to move at a moments notice Bruce and Bev
The T.V. have said that three homes have been lost to the fire so far,
"God Help Butler" should the fire reach that Suburb, there are thousands of homes in that area.
As at 2.30 am the latest up-date is as follows.....
WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING: o Firefighters are actively fighting to get the fire under control. o More than 200 career and volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, Bush Fire Service, Volunteer Fire Service and Department of Parks and Wildlife firefighters are on the scene. o Taskforces from throughout the State have been sent to assist crews in the metropolitan area, including from the South-West, Lower South-West, Midwest Gascoyne, and Goldfields-Midlands regions. o Aerial support is no longer assisting ground crews due to low light.
MORE THAN 5,500 HECTACRES HAVE NOW BEEN DESTROYED,
ROAD CLOSURES: Avoid the area and be aware of fire and other emergency services personnel working on site. A number of roads have been closed including: Neaves Road from Pinjar Road to Railway Parade Wanneroo Road between Old Yanchep Road and Flynn Drive Flynn Drive, Nowergup Road and Karoborup Road are also closed.

It is a scary fire for sure. Hopefully the fireys can get some control this morning while the wind has dropped. We were planning on meeting friends down at Wanneroo Markets today and going on a trash and treasure hunt day. Probably not a good day to be driving down there, I see Wanneroo Road is closed so we would have to go via Two Rocks and Yanchep and that could be a bit iffy too. Goddam it now I will have to do housework instead!!
as at last night they had all of Wanneroo Rd closed from Joondalup Drive. Don't know how far north this extended. Wfe had to double back and go through multiple police road blocks to come up Marmion Drive to Yanchep.
However, looking out the window this morning, the fire looks either out or close to it - we're not far away and no smoke or smell
Good on the fireys - many volunteer grey headed!!!!

The Fire fighters are dreading the expected wind change forecast for midday,
this could change the Head-fire to a North Easterly direction, straight towards two settled areas
A bushfire WATCH AND ACT has been issued for people in the Shire of Chittering south of Timaru Road and west of Brand Highway and Railway Parade. This is due to firefighters conducting back burning in the area and the expected wind change..
One fire report has said the Fire is now 44km long and 18km wide,
The BRAND HIGHWAYis the main highway for Truckies carting goods to the North West.
Developing pictures of the size of this fire,.....
