Currently planning a trip to the Snowy Mountains area and seek advice about the suitability of towing a van through the Victorian high country along the Omeo Highway and other roads from Bairnsdale to Corryong and then on though to the Snowy Mountains. Or should we go the Hume or Princes Highways and access the Snowys from the north. Trip will be in late Feb through March with a diesel Navara towing a 1600kg van.
Any suggestions of viability, recommended stops, roads to take or avoid or general advice would be greatly appreciated.
We have driven this road from Tallangatta to Omeo last April with a Pajero and 21ft van with no problems. Take it slowly and carefully. There was little traffic on this road and with a lot of recent and ongoing roadworks, it was not difficult. The scenery is magnificent and with a lot of shrubbery taken back from the roadsides, gave a lovely view over the mountains. Do hope you enjoy the trip.
Thomas you will have no trouble going over the Omeo Hwy. all the roadworks are finished,it is sealed all the way.
You will be on the inside of the mountain for over three quarters of the way. Here are some photos of the road between Glen Wills and Mitta Mitta taken last month
Don't go over the Omeo ,Benambra ,Corryong road there is 70 to 80 kilometres of dirt sometimes not in the best condition,it is a nice trip but without the van
