Dougwe's fridge

Dougwe,

re your problem fridge: do you have enough power capacity (solar; generator) to change your fridge to a 12v or 12/240v one? Might be the only way the problem is going to be solved.

How, Wendy,

Thankyou for your post. I must admit I have thought of changing the 12v wiring to direct to battery power and run on 12v but not sure if a 3 way fridge is designed to run on 12v all the time. I would have to check the power situation as well, I have 300w Solar on roof and a 120w panel that I can rig up as portable but am going to set up to a separate regulator at battery end. I have 2x110 AH Batteries.

The 240v side of things has a faulty element so can't hook up to Gene.

The Thetford Agent in Shepparton is looking into the problem but are still on Xmas break. I don't want to effect warranty at this stage.

I have also PM'd you.

Hi Doug,

I don't know what your frig problem is but I run a Waeco Ref, electric only 12/24 110/240 volts. Mine is set to 12 volts which I run 24/7 with no problems. My batteries are 6 volt (2) connected in series to give me 12 volts. Each battery is 225 amp/hours. I have 235 watts solar. Should be no reason why you can't run your frig on 12 volt 24/7 as long it's sustainable with the power you generate. And you do have 300 watts solar and 2 x 12 volt batteries at 110 amp/hours each.

Get rid of the 3 way and get a good quality compressor fridge. I have an old waeco , and 2 -120 amp /hr batterys, with 240w solar , and mppt reg. This runs fridge for about 6 days before I have to start car, which is connected to baterys when running. Fridge will go down to -18c, even in tropics.Works well. Bill

12v on a 3 way fridge is only meant to be used while actually driving, It is more for maintaining the temperature of the unit while in transit.

I have had a visit from the Thetford agent today as he was passing Greens Lake and called in to see me. He told me the same thing. He also said not to modify anything as t will void any warranty and Thetford won't want to know me at all then.

I have to wait until next Monday, 12/1 when Thetford are back at work before anymore can be done.

Cost wise, for me, a Compressor fridge is out of the question, at this stage anyway. Besides others as Ken has said aren't having this problem. Mine just has to be fixed or replaced.

Hope they get the problem sorted for you Dougwe, but you think that they would have some type of emergency services though the holiday period as there are a lot of holiday makers this time of the year on holidays.
