3 months ago, we took a caretaking position on a station 120 klms out of Meeka, and travel fortnightly into town to shop, medical, etc.
The town supermarket, Farmer Jacks, have some practices in place which really need to be brought to your attention. Items appear on your docket which aren't in your basket or trolley : because they employ mostly backpackers whose English is very limited and they are not even conversant with what they are selling. I've had $4.99 tomatoes rung up as $8.99 mushrooms..and many other similar mistakes. Recently, they ran a special on UHT milk at $15.00 a box, but when you got to the checkout, the girl takes one carton from the box and scans it, then multiplies it by 12.This turns a $15 box of milk into a $$27.00 box of milk, and if you're not aware of what's happening, you pay and then maybe discover the mistake once you've got home or further down the track.
My advice is that if you're stocking up in Meeka; check your docket BEFORE you leave. I discovered we'd been charged $54.00 for a box of 20 waters, instead of $ 12... I rand the supermarket, and was told I'd receive a credit when I next returned to town to shop. This was never honoured. as when I did shop the following fortnight, I was told I'd had the most expensive water and the price was right. Never seen a 20 pack of 600 ml water that cost $ 54...so all I'm saying is that it pays to check what you buy and how much it says it is.
I have experienced similar at a Farmer Jacks in Perth suburbs. On two separate occasions on different items the checkout price was more than the clearly marked shelf price. I only purchased a few items each time so noticed the difference. They did credit the difference which in my case was only a small amount. After the second time this happened I decided not to shop there again.
Obviously you dont have that option in Meeka.
I hope it is just an oversight by the shop owners or shop management and not deliberate fraud.
