All those out there with Fifth Wheelers

How many of you out there have fifth wheelers and how are you enjoying the experience?

Love our fiver, so much living space and easy to hitch and go and to park.

Tows a dream too compared to a caravan, no wobbles or instability when road trains pass.

That's a big rig banjo!, I'm hopping to be much more compact, still with a tandem axle, but in the 22ft range. Also no slide-outs for me. The wife wants the bed on the lower deck, I want it in the goose-neck area, with the back of the van being lounge, so I can look out at a view. There will be only two of us, so designing it accordingly. Who wins this battle is any-ones guess.

We have had our Winjana Cattai 760 hybrid for just on two years now and love it.  It is easy to tow and is very comfortable!

Here's a link to ours and the builder. We're very happy with it, queen bed at the front, toilet and shower in the middle, table and chairs at the back with great big windows so we can admire the view. No slideouts. He'll build to your design. Tow it with a DMax. No gas all electric appliances.

diggerop your van is near as dammit to the floor plan I have emailed to Southern Cross. I think those two recliners and the large windows are just great. Even the all in one bathroom is what I was planning. I would love to get some more detail off you, length etc.
Have you any regrets with going with that layout as opposed to having the bed at the centre of the van.
Where is that company situated?
Regards
Ian.

I think they are gaining popularity .. About 4 years ago when we where looking for caravan / motorhome..
We saw many in yards for sale..I think some from the states ? seemed too expensive and the worry was
why were they not selling ?? Being made here now I think they are catching on with popularity etc..
I like the idea how better balanced they sit on road..
The expense was the towing vehicle on top ..
I didn't want a small 4 Cyl turbo diesel, wanted the larger for comfort..
Had enough of these 4 door units as work vehicle..

They're in Brisbane.

We have no regrets at all with the layout, not sure how you could get the bed in the centre of the van. The toilet and shower are seperate, you walk between them to the bedroom. Full head height everywhere. No gas, mostly 240V running through an inverter from a 400ah lithium battery. House hold type fridge and air con, both work well. Electric jacks/stabilisers ( bloody good). Heaps of storage space in the through boot and front boot. 2 water and 1 grey water tanks. 24 ft long, tare is 2300 and gross 3300 or there abouts.   biggrin
