I was not even aware he was unwell ... let alone alzheimer's
Google has much about his being hospitalised back in April to a "long term facility" ... and nothing newer on his condition or news of his passing so he must still be hanging in there.
I am not sure it has provided me with "a little new year's cheer"
Another fearsome thing that is somewhere down the ever narrowing tunnel of life we are traversing - reinforces my resolve to keep on travelling.

Have just finished a book about a core group of top-flight session musicians from the 60s and 70s that have come to be known as The Wrecking Crew. They played on most of the hits from that era, particularly those recorded on the US west coast. Glen Campbell was one of them, playing guitar on most of the Beach Boys hits as well those of Sonny & Cher, Mama & Papas, Jan & Dean and many others before embarking on his solo career. One amusing anecdote from the book was when he played guitar on Frank Sinatra's Strangers In The Night. Glen, awestruck at being part of a recording session for the great Blue Eyes, was positioned next to Frank's recording booth and couldn't take his eyes off him during the session. Afterwards, Frank asked the record producer who the 'fag' playing the guitar was that kept staring at him!
At least some of that talent hasn't been entirely lost. As Rocky said, we have to make the most of what we've got while we still have it.
Happy and safe travels to all Grey Nomads for 2015 and beyond - I'll be out there in the playground myself later in the year.

My mother had Alzheimers - the saddest thing for us, her family, to have your mother not know who you are. I try and remember the funny things she said - you can take my legs now, they won't work, - they stole my cigarettes (she never smoked) - I can't find my red lipstick(only ever wore dusky rose)!
Took a long time to forget the last time I saw her - totally unrecognisable - then my daughter found an old photo of her, wrapped it up so my mum's smiling face would be the first thing I saw when I opened it - I laughed and cried, now that is how I remember her. She would have been 97 on the 30th December, been gone for 23 years.

We have only just put mum in a nursing home, kicking and screaming and not very happy mind you. One of the doctors asked me for some background info and who was her regular GP?, I said there wasn't much to tell, she is 97, had 9kids, seven were home births, survived two world wars, blown a kiss buy Adolf Hitler, and to the family's knowledge hasn't seen a GP in twenty years. Tough as old leather, unfortunately blindness was her downfall.
