I figure there will be a few of us who have been members of the NRMA Road Service for around 50 years, I recently reached this milestone and fortunately when I renewed my membership the last time I was told that I would from 50 years onwards get a 50% discount on membership fees at the level that I had for the previous 12 months, I opted to take a higher Premium level which included towing my caravan as well as the tug if necessary as well as car hire and accommodation if over 100 klm from home after major breakdown or accident.
Being half price certainly makes it financially viable for me especially some of the more remote areas we have travelled in I wouldn't be without it.

please check that they will actually tow your van, I know the last time I checked they had some crazy limitations on the siz eof van they would actually tow.
I am not sure the limitation stipulated in the 'road assistance policy' is the "towing" of the van in case of breakdown of the vehicle.
The limitation, as far as some of the 'road assistance companies' are concerned, is the probable unavailability of a flat-top/tilt-tray being available to take the van. Many vans these days are too big for those recovery trucks hence the dimensions stated in their policies.
Experience suggests that if the vehicle breaks down and is required to be 'flat-topped/tilt-trayed' with the van in tow by the recovery truck, then that is acceptable and covered.
I am aware of many vehicle breakdowns where this has been approved, and paid.
cheers - John

the WA RAC call centre told us things that turned out to be totally untrue when we looked to buying a roadside tug and van roadside assistance policy for around $400. We found out from a RAC roadside assistance guy that they mislead callers and people then don't check the written PDF when the policy turns up - they only find out who limited the policy is when they have to use it.
With all the motoring organisations that offer these policies, I strongly recommend you read their on-line PDF first (they will tell you the web-site address) and then decide.
In the RAC case, their top deal was really only good in metro areas of WA - almost useless in most country areas and hopeless out of State

The amazing things you see when nomading Australia
All the usual motoring organisation candidates are useless unless you have a small vehicle under 3.5 T. The only service arrangement I can find, are the commercial ones for truck fleets. Essentially its a form of very very limited insurance. Seems no one in the industry is interested in covering motorhomes the same way they do cars. Very disappointing.
Incorrect Jason F. RACQ will cover a vehicle up to 6tonne in suitable transport is available. There are height and width restrictions too but these are constantly increasing. If a contractor is used, then that contractor simply might not have the full range of recovery vehicles and that's pretty rare now. RACQ are trialling Ultimate RV which handles up to 8t GVM. Like this thread, your information is outdated.

Hi dabbler
Is there any chance of a link to your information
My insurance is due in a few weeks, and I could use the info when (as I do every year), ask RAC West Australia, if they still do not cover motorhomes
Tony Bev. Do you want insurance or roadside assistance ? RACQ only offers roadside assistance to Qld residents but a quick Google for RACQ Ultimate RV should find it.
They are totally different organizations. But I imagine each other state had their eyes on the Qld trial and possibly similar plans. Interesting to see what they say.
They have confirmed that they still do not offer Insurance for my type of motorhome
But
They do offer roadside assistance for some motorhomes and caravans They directed me to page 10 of their PDS
They will tow (in the countryside) up to 300 kilometres round trip for the tow truck For vehicles less than 5.5 metres long and under 4 tonns, which is a pity as my wife is a member for her car
Rather than open a new thread on which is the best insurance, I have done due diligence for the following
In no particular order, for fully comp insurance for the vehicle in my Avatar
