The above m/home serves me well. I have just finished 11 months with "Blazeaid", in NSW, Vic; and Qld. With all the rough and dusty roads in and out of the drought ravished cattle properties up north I tend to keep a wary eye on my tyres. However, once back on sealed roads, I decided it was time to check out the condition of the spare. The bloody wouldn't wind down. Me and the mate spent two hours trying to dig out all the pebbles and dirt from the chain and crank.
No good. It wouldn't move. So, had to go in through the wooden boot floor. A hole was cut about 4 inched square above the crank, where I could get a socket on an extension and undo the 4 bolts that hold the winding gear in place on the chassis. If you have a vehicle with a wind down spare, best to check, regularly, that it is not jammed.
