Gday...

Original post deleted due to misunderstanding caused totally by the ignorance and thoughtlessness of the original post.

I extend sincere apologies to all members of this forum, irrespective of their length of time on this forum or on this earth.

EVERY member of this forum is considered EQUAL ... and their experience, irrespective of the length, depth or veracity of that experience, is welcomed.

I will crawl back under my rock and observe the forum from a slight distance ... given that perhaps I have become too close and too closed minded on its excellent merits and value.

cheers - and happy posting and interactions - John

Good post , But when people seek advice we should stick to the subject and only reply if you have advice that can help .

Good point brickies, but also there needs to be input to correct mis-advice (ill-advice?) when it is given...

The forum has and will continue to be a reflection of life, and as such it is inhabited by a variety of people, some are conversational, and very general in their views, others are very specific about how they feel things should be, and are confrontational in their approach to correct other people's understanding.

Over the last couple of months, a significant number of the first group who typically are the entertainers have decided to leave, each for their own reasons. This has left a vacuum which we are all feeling.

On the other side of the fence some of the autocratic technical people have returned, and have frustrated some of the people who perhaps do not want to be have every conversation at the level of detail required to be ensure the topic is correctly described removing the risk of misinterpretation.

I find I am not getting the enjoyment out of the forum that I used, but I just accept that the inhabitants of the forum have changes, and the magic has gone.

BUT, I am confident if we give it time it will recover, new characters will emerge, maybe some of the old characters will decide they should return. Maybe some of the people that have become grumpy old whatevers because someone has changed their forum will realise that maybe they need to get off their high horse and get on with life.

Hi all. In reply to the OP comment " time for the experienced, long time members to reclaim THEIR forum ". This, to me, infers that new members lack experience ? or is their experience not of a high enough standard for the experienced mob ?. And if, as stated , this experienced, long time mob are to reclaim THEIR forum I guess this means that newcomers are not really welcome but will be tolerated under sufferance. I have always had a lot of respect for the long time, frequent posters on this forum along with the input of newbies whose opinions and experience are just as valuable and important as anybody elses. If the chosen few ( read long time, experienced members ) wish to turn this forum into THEIR forum then go for it with your pi**ing competitions and back slapping exhibitions and when your level of boredom becomes intolerable then you will all be able to find another forum to claim as YOURS. The self centred, superior attitude expressed in the OP will contribute greatly to the downfall of this forum. Seasons greetings all.

I see the forum as being just like a family. Sometimes very social with lots of get togethers (comments/advice) , other times all too busy for much contact. Occasionally some members die, both young and old, some leave home and never come back, others will leave and return with regularity. And there will also be disputes and arguments. The forum moderators are like a mother - trying to keep the peace among squabbling children, but sometimes those children need to be sent to the naughty corner where some will sulk and some will promise to be kinder to their siblings.
My advice is be kind, speak to others as you would like them to speak to you and keep to the topic or start one of your own.

ahhh, so my first thoughts were correct, unfortunately, this forum isn't for everyone.

whether or not that sentence was intended to sound like it came across it certainly indicates that newcomers that can offer correct and valid advice is not welcome, hence the closed shop to those  "experienced" "long-time" members of this forum, doesn't sound very friendly.

Now we have the spectacle where of one of the mob is wondering why more of the mob dont return to claim THEIR forum,

It is the MOB that are killing the forum with their constant in--talk and in-jokes that have no relevance to anyone else except one of the mob.

I think the mob should show some respect to the whole forum and if a comment is directed at only one or two members a private message should be sent.

This is normal good manners for a forum.

If the comment is aimed at only one or two send it by private mail.

Further to my rant about this ;

What sort of a forum is it where the owner/moderator allows a poster to send  pornographic photos and brag about the drug use at their camp but disallows a post that begs to have the mob stop damaging a protected tree ?

I think that speaks for the type of forum the owner seems to value.

We have had some great contributors over time but I have never seen it at such a low ebb.
For gods sake GROW UP and stop nit picking over such trivial matters.

I am sure their are people who read this forum only to find fault with others comments....Sometimes its better to
say nothing and just move on KEITH

Well said Keith -  the simple thing to do is not read someone's posts if you don't like their tone!  Now easy is that?  Let's get back to the friendly and helpful forum we used to be, and enjoy our lives, out in the playground or at home!

What is wrong with this forum??????  Absolutely nothing!!!!!  There are that many people who have made good and lasting friendships through the forum - people who have a love of the nomad life, and want to share their enthusiasm with others.  Everyone has a different sense of humour, and don't always see the funny side of things that others may see - but let me tell you that in the three odd years I have been on the forum, I have laughed, cried, had a ball, met some amazing people, and been to some pretty amazing places - all thanks to the Grey Nomads - meeting new members in person is like greeting an old friend.

At this end of our lives, we should be positive about life, enjoying life, and living life to the fullest - not being negative about someone's post or photo, or a tree that has shoes nailed on it!

Cooee,

I had a lot to say back to you but decided against as it is just adding to your negative post's.

Coee, please for the sake of the forum move on, meaning, move on to a more positive lifestyle and stop your continual bickering about people on this forum. Cooee, life is way too short to be negative all the time and I speak from personal experience as I'm sure many here do.

You seem to single me out a lot so how about doing something mentioned before and PM me instead of bringing this forum down all the time.

I have found great friendships though this forum and very few nit so nice people. If you take the time you might make some friends yourself.

I have had my say and will say no mote on this matter. Enjoy the playground Cooee.

EASY PEASY

Take the shoes and thongs off the tree.

The tree belongs to all of us and should be protected.

I have no other problems with The Mob except their belief that they have the right to disfigure a beautiful tree that is protected by law.

Fair GO!

It is just a gum tree that has been honoured and turned into a veritable icon.

But even with it's honoured status I don't think it deserves as much attention  as it gets.

After all every time it is mentioned just makes another person want to go there and honour THE TREE.

Yes Plendo it is just a Gum tree.

It is just a Gum tree  which should be protected because it is in a reserve.

The Authority that has the duty to see that the tree is protected is Goulburn-Murray Water.

If the tree still has thongs and shoes or anything nailed or attached to it after Xmas the Board of Goulburn-Murray Water will be asked why they failed in their duty.

Yes it is only a Gum tree but it could end up having a huge impact on Free Camping at Greens Lake.

Why??

One would imagine that if the Grey Nomads found a free camping spot where  they could stay for an unlimited amount of time that they would cherish and protect it.

NO.. They have flaunted their disregard for the environment by disfiguring a tree.

Who will be the blame when Goulburn_Murray Water have to act??

Will it be me , the messenger, or will it be the Mob who have done this damage to the tree and  then brag and laugh about it ??

You are certainly free to ignore them.

If my last post appears threatening it is because I have given plenty of notice that I intend to start a campaign after Xmas to get the shoes and thongs off the tree.

I have no other way to warn the members that I will be doing this.

I do not see this as a threat I see it as a fair warning .

Maybe the experts can explain the difference.

I see no reason for me to add any further to this so I wont.
