Roofrack for 200 cruiser

Hi We just bought a new 200 series cruiser, our second one, we want to fit a roofrack. we have decided on a fullsize aluminium. The question is : do we fit it close to the roof, or have it up on longer feet? we're thinking ease of cleaning the roof. What are some of your thoughts please. Cheers, Hans and Judy

I'd definitely get one you can at least get one of those flat car washing mops under. I have a rack for my Troopy that has only about 30mm clearance in some areas and you can't get anything under to clean it. The inaccessible areas tend to built up grime, which holds moisture and can lead to paint breakdown and corrosion problems. I want to get it raised by at least 25mm, so I can fit something under to clean it. Not so easy to modify though.

thank you, yes cleaning is a problem. I just want to keep it as low as possible, but I take your point. once again, thank you.

Our roof rack is about 50mm off the roof, what i do is a sponge and a broom handle, place the soapy sponge on roof place handle on sponge.

Thats one way, but there will be different ways others will say how to do it.

50mm would be good, have you seen those flat microfibre mops that have a swivel head they stock at Supercheap? They would work perfectly with that much clearance. Just too big to fit all the way under mine unfortunately.
