Ok all you intelligent folk out there just looking at a 12 volt fan with a cig lighter plug in the van do you fit cig lighter plugs around your van or is there a better solution to this as all my lighting is 12 volt but there is no power outlets and I'm not a big fan of cig lighter plugs as a power source anyway.
Thanks
Wondering Woody

You can get them now with a battery inside the fan - we bought a Companion brand box fan which runs for 3 hours on the battery or longer if you fit an extra battery. We paid $139 for this which was expensive but we were hot!
It comes with a cig lighter lead and a 240v adaptor, both used for recharging. There are cheaper units available. Best bit about these is that you can move them anywhere, even out under a tree plus there are no leads to get tangled up in.
Good Luck.
I have a "Caframo" 12v fan, has 3 speed settings and 4 different timer settings that are very handy indeedy. The fan uses very little power as it is actually made for boats but a lot of caravaners are using them now. You can fit a cig plug or hot wire into the van. I got mine on-line from "Whitworth Marine" in Elizabeth street, Melbourne. Around $139 at the mo on special, according to the dogalog. Took about a week to get to me. Easy peasy and a great fan.
As to your question on 12v sockets in the van, well when I was getting my new "Chief" built I had double 240v power points fitted all over the place, just cos I could. Now the good bit, next to every one of those I had a double 12v cig socket fitted as well, why, cos I could again. I reckon you can never have enough of those things. The 12v ones will get much more use than the 240v though and I tell you that for free.
Go for it mate and enjoy the power.

We have a Sirroco Caframo 12v fan, purchased from a marine shop - it has a cigarette plug on it, which we plug into a 4 hole (plus usb port) unit, that has been wired directly to our house batteries, it is on the wall near where the batteries are. As it isn't being pulled in and out all the time, we have no problem with the plug. Uses minimal power as well.
I just bought a cheap 600 watt inverter from ALDI and it works a treat as most 'normal' 240 volt fans draw around 50 watts and that should be no problem. We just use one of those $20 box type fans from Big W (45 watts). The inverter came with leads and alligator clips for the house battery. Add a 4 way plug board (you can't overload it as it will just shut down) and away you go.

Buy good quality cig sockets & you won't have a problem. You might have to pay $20 plus. I use a 240 v box fan through an inverter, with no problems.
Cheers Pete
Agree with the above. Buy Marine grade sockets as they also have the faciloity for you to turn the male cig end slightly and this then makes the connection more secure.
I have them both in the van and the Tug. I also have some external ones on the van that are waterproof.

For your info, I used the cigarette socket that handles the power to the TV .. had a couple extra sockets added so that a few accessories may use the same power source ..
As the power consumption is quite low all around .. and not each is usually used at the same time, it's worked just fine for me ..
Well um yes hako that's a definite maybe lots more to this than I first thought didn't know there was marine grade but sounds like the merit plugs are the way to go as I don't mind paying a bit more for a quality item they are flush mounted so look neat and tidy, and the Caframo fan sounds like a good unit also.might just be time to go shopping .
Thank you everybody for your comments and advice it is very much appreciate.
Woody well yes he wood
