I am getting frustrated with ignorant managers of Caravan Parks who will not allow cooking with Heat Beads.
We took our motorhome to Lake Dyer near Laidley last weekend.
Outside the office was a sign about 2 metres high saying:
NO FIRES - NO HEAT BEADS
End of my plans for cooking dinner and had left the Weber Baby Q at home!
At Bribie Island Caravan Park I asked at the office if I could cook with a camp oven with Heat Beads.
The manager appreciated me asking, he had never heard of an OzPig or a Cobb Grill or a Volcano Stove and told me that QF&R had advised him that the only device allowed with Heat Beads were Weber Kettles.
I have advised the Heat Beads Head Office and they are going to contact QF&R and have a chat.
The other issue with caravan parks is that often they say NO because they have the misconception that all camp oven cooking requires digging holes in the ground - wrong!
I am getting rather annoyed! Some education is required.

FWIW, the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service recommends fuel stoves and barbecues that run on "manufactured" fuel, such as heat beads, and considers them to be safe.
Fuel stoves (including portable barbecues) are defined as a portable, fully self-contained heating and cooking appliance that uses manufactured fuel. Manufactured fuels do not include wood or timber, but include a wide range of commercially available, non-toxic products such as gas, liquid and solid fuels e.g. hexamite fuel blocks, briquettes or heat beads. Generally these appliances should stand at least 20 cm off the ground.
Visitors to Queensland's parks and forests are encouraged to bring their own fuel stove or barbecue for cooking and heating, along with the appropriate manufactured fuel for the appliance.
There are many benefits to using portable fuel stoves and barbecues. They offer a safe, easy, compact and more sustainable option for camp cooking and heating and are generally able to be used where wood-fueled camp fires are not ...

sadly, its not only heat beads and other solid fuel that these people are ignorant about.
Many C/Parks are run only to turn a profit and take no interest in what is going on in their Park (I have been in so many and the only staff you see are the cleaners or maintenance folk). They sit in their air con'd office yapping on the phone to local friends and don't give a toss about their customers - oh - unless we free camp, in which case theyre bitching about that!!
We have met a few good owners or managers of C/P's, but sadly they are in the minority. How many ask you are there any problems or did you enjoy your stay in their Park?????

Could it be that there could be a problem if LPG escape from another caravan and you are using a form of ignition which if mixed would cause a big bang and caravan insurer may not be pleased , Also some caravan use LPG for hot water system , Maybe this type of cooking is not suitable for Caravan parks QFES do not make rules to be hard to get on with they have to look at the big picture this may not make you happy David .
